Summer transfer window
Re: Summer transfer window
My concern in losing JB is more next season than this. There's a very good chance we'll be back in the Championship (that's not defeatist, just realistic if the last couple of seasons are anything to go by) and JB is a stand out player at that level. Put simply we wouldn't have achieved automatic promotion without him this season. His goals and assists were absolutely vital. He's a player who has a knack of scoring important goals and he won't be cheap to replace.

Re: Summer transfer window
That is my biggest worry too - and I don't see it as defeatist, it is realistic. He is a player that gets you out of that league and certainly 'does a job' at this level. He is also Captain. Big loss, whichever way it is looked at in my opinion.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 9:03 amMy concern in losing JB is more next season than this. Yep and it's not just his ability in the Championship. It's the way he maintains the standards and leads the squad when there's huge change going on around the place.jlup1980 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 9:03 amMy concern in losing JB is more next season than this. We've been lucky the last two times we've handle down to have the likes of Cork, Barnes, Rodriguez and Browmhill to steady the ship.
It's important we continue to recruit these types for that reason.

Whilst nowhere near as intense as the PL, Ligue 1 is far more physical, so it’s a more natural progression to the PL than coming from Germany, Italy, Spain.
Add in that every French club is budgeting this season with £0 TV money currently, so upto a point, everyone is for sale.

Apologise for prolonging the JB speculation, but very surprised there isn’t any more very recent speculation on his potential destinations at this stage from the usual journalists that like to break this sort of news.

The Burnley Express have done an article with the headline: "Josh Brownhill update emerges" and then gone on to literally give no update whatsoever.
They might as well have took me to the update on the mushroom poisoning.

Re: Summer transfer window
I get the feeling Brownhill wants to stay but he’d be daft not to look at all options given the position he’s in. Difficult position for us to be in because you’d imagine his agent will hold out as long as possible for the best deal. Leaves us in a tough spot if the decision is drawn out and then doesn’t go our way.

His contract offer should have been withdrawn at 00.01. He’s had long enough. Time to move on.PremierLeagueClass wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 10:32 amI get the feeling Brownhill wants to stay but he’d be daft not to look at all options given the position he’s in. Re: Summer transfer window
He owes us nothing. He’s been here for the duration of his contract.
Fans often grumble when players angle for a move before it expires. He’s simply not done that. And not forgetting. Played the last 6 months knowing he could get injured and risk any big opportunity.
He played 100% every game. Scored vital goals and got us up.
I’d be keen for him to stay. Albeit not at any cost. But if he does go, he should do with our thanks.

Andy Diouf wants to go to Palace according to reports in France. The whole story of our bid sounds like agent driven garbage.

Re: Summer transfer window
He has decided to run his contract down to give him the best possible deal, as a chunk of what would be the transfer fee is reinvested in a signing-on fee and/or wages. I have no problem with this and I am surprised more players don't do it.
Having made that decision, I don't think it's unreasonable to take some time to consider his offers and wait for more movement in the market which may present new opportunities. The club is in dialogue with him so should have contingencies in place in the event that he moves on. I know it's frustrating for us but we have to be patient if we want his services and I think he's earned the right to some patience from us.

Re: Summer transfer window
This going abroad somewhere warm, together with no premier league sides wanting to take him ‘free’as a starter or even squad player, sounds a bit like he hasn’t the confidence to make a difference in the premier league, so wants to try something different, a bit like CJR. Although CJR will hope to be a success in the Premier League at some point in the future when he develops his experience further.

The contingencies should be coming in now. Brownhill is no longer a Burnley player. I’m sorry to see him go but if he hasn’t accepted our offer then we move on and buy a replacement.Duffer_ wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 10:47 amHe has decided to run his contract down to give him the best possible deal, as a chunk of what would be the transfer fee is reinvested in a signing-on fee and/or wages. L’equipe suggesting Diouf ‘may’ prefer a move to Palace, though there is no agreement between their clubs. Meanwhile we are trying to finalise the deal today.
Re: Summer transfer window
Andy Diouf.
RMC Sport adds that Burnley and Lens have reached an €18 million agreement for the player.
However, Diouf is yet to give his green light to the move. The 22-year-old midfielder is also in talks with Crystal Palace.

Re: Summer transfer window
Re Brownhill, this will be his last chance at a large contract. It’s disappointing, but hardly surprising that he’s hoping to move on.
I’ll be surprised if he’s a regular at another PL club or a club in one of the big leagues, but I don’t think this is what the move is about.

Diouf MIGHT not make the first team at Palace, unless they sell Wharton. He might not make the first team with us but his chances would be better.

If he doesn't fancy the rolling hills of Burnley, jog on.

I'm really surprised more elite players don't run their contracts down too tbh. With the money on offer nowadays I'm sure that will become more of a thing.

Re: Summer transfer window
L’Équipe understands that Crystal Palace is seemingly the player’s priority, however, the club have yet to reach an agreement with Les Sang et Or or the player. The France U21 international’s current deal with Lens runs until the summer of 2028.

Now my guess is that we've got a back up just in case he goes to Palace in Warren Bondo.

Re: Summer transfer window
He’ll probably end up at Palace which, given I know nothing about him, won’t overly bother me. UEFA’s constant postponement of a decision on Palace’s participation in the Europa League probably isn’t helping them attract players though.ollieclarets8 wrote: ↑Tue Jul 01, 2025 11:58 amI'd actually ignored this one as it seemed pretty clear he wasn't coming with Palace wanting him.

Re: Summer transfer window
The main thing about Palace is that they were interested in January, when we weren’t odd on to get promoted, so they are always going to be favourites. We’ve just been trying to sneak in on the blind side
Re: Summer transfer window
I’m not too bothered about this French midfielder as I’ve already pinned my hopes on that big Ukrainian lad we were linked with last week. He looked like Rodri from his YouTube clips.

Is Barkley capable of playing 30 PL games at a decent level?warksclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jun 30, 2025 1:56 pmI agree-if he goes we need a stellar signing, who has his attributes. Maybe someone like Ross Barkeley at Villa. Before people start slamming me that he is going to be expensive, I am led to believe that Brownhill's proposed new package is very attractive. I suspect we could get Barkeley for well under £5m, and he has little chance of gaining a regular place at Villa. They do have some truly outstanding midfielders and even McGinn cant get a regular start. A loan with an option to buy if we stay up could be the dream situation for us. I know Villa are doing everything possible to contain their PSR exposure. With Barkeley having been on Luton's payroll I doubt he was on a mega wage, which could mean Villa did not have to break the bank to get him. Only a thought

Re: Summer transfer window
I cant answer that but he played all but 4 of Luton's games in the PL-would have played more but signed late in the window. Todays game is very much about squad and rotation, but if we got 60-70 minutes out of him each game I think he would be a major asset. He had a huge impact at Luton, whilst appreciating they were relegated. THe fact Luton could get him to sign offers me hope that it might be possible

Re: Summer transfer window
My take on the JB position is that he’s been relegated twice from the Prem and promoted twice from the Championship (I think that’s right). He’s far too good for one and just about not good enough for the other.
If he stays, he’ll do ok but ultimately won’t keep us up. If he leaves, we have the opportunity to upgrade with probably one of the biggest earners off the books (a loan from a top 6 club, maybe?).
Let’s stay positive and see his leaving as an opportunity, if he does go, as opposed to potentially him staying being the positive, which would really be repeating the same thing we’ve already tried and expecting a different outcome…
