That is my biggest worry too - and I don't see it as defeatist, it is realistic. He is a player that gets you out of that league and certainly 'does a job' at this level. He is also Captain. Big loss, whichever way it is looked at in my opinion.

Yep and it's not just his ability in the Championship. It's the way he maintains the standards and leads the squad when there's huge change going on around the place.

We've been lucky the last two times we've handle down to have the likes of Cork, Barnes, Rodriguez and Browmhill to steady the ship.
It's important we continue to recruit these types for that reason.

Whilst nowhere near as intense as the PL, Ligue 1 is far more physical, so it’s a more natural progression to the PL than coming from Germany, Italy, Spain.

Having made that decision, I don't think it's unreasonable to take some time to consider his offers and wait for more movement in the market which may present new opportunities. The club is in dialogue with him so should have contingencies in place in the event that he moves on. I know it's frustrating for us but we have to be patient if we want his services and I think he's earned the right to some patience from us.

Re Brownhill, this will be his last chance at a large contract. It’s disappointing, but hardly surprising that he’s hoping to move on.

I’ll be surprised if he’s a regular at another PL club or a club in one of the big leagues, but I don’t think this is what the move is about.

I agree-if he goes we need a stellar signing, who has his attributes. Maybe someone like Ross Barkeley at Villa. Before people start slamming me that he is going to be expensive, I am led to believe that Brownhill's proposed new package is very attractive. I suspect we could get Barkeley for well under £5m, and he has little chance of gaining a regular place at Villa. They do have some truly outstanding midfielders and even McGinn cant get a regular start. A loan with an option to buy if we stay up could be the dream situation for us. I know Villa are doing everything possible to contain their PSR exposure. With Barkeley having been on Luton's payroll I doubt he was on a mega wage, which could mean Villa did not have to break the bank to get him. Only a thought

Doesn’t that post say other clubs interested to, the symbol can mean anything, doesn’t necessarily say it’s palace.

Is Barkley capable of playing 30 PL games at a decent level?

I cant answer that but he played all but 4 of Luton's games in the PL-would have played more but signed late in the window. Todays game is very much about squad and rotation, but if we got 60-70 minutes out of him each game I think he would be a major asset. He had a huge impact at Luton, whilst appreciating they were relegated. THe fact Luton could get him to sign offers me hope that it might be possible

My take on the JB position is that he’s been relegated twice from the Prem and promoted twice from the Championship (I think that’s right). He’s far too good for one and just about not good enough for the other.

If he stays, he’ll do ok but ultimately won’t keep us up. If he leaves, we have the opportunity to upgrade with probably one of the biggest earners off the books (a loan from a top 6 club, maybe?).

Let’s stay positive and see his leaving as an opportunity, if he does go, as opposed to potentially him staying being the positive, which would really be repeating the same thing we’ve already tried and expecting a different outcome…
