Really need to find the right combination up top, although with a week or so to go, I'm still confident VK will pull a rabbit out of a hat

Jesus Christ! The moaning you get on here is unbearable at times. I’m struggling to know what people want. Last weekend we conceded three sloppy goals and we were too expansive and open. Today we win and keep a clean sheet and we’re boring, slow and sideways.

Looking like 19 PL sides left in the last 32. Going to be tough to progress with squad players against that lot.

I do wonder what people actually expect.
Were those constantly moaning the same when Dyche and Coyle first took charge and were an handful of games in.
I’m going to appease myself by assuming they were and it’s just how they are.

Re: Shrewsbury v Burnley Match Thread
The criticism of Barnes tonight is absolutely ludicrous. The way we were playing Alan Shearer would not have been anywhere near scoring. Any forward needs the ball playing into the box and it is not happening. THe number of times we got to the edge of their area and then proceeded to play the ball back into our own half was embarrassing.
The first half was the most boring half of football I have seen for a long, long time and I have been watching since 1952!
5 shots in 94 minutes of football with 81% possession takes a lot of understanding. Absolutely nothing to get you excited until Tella came on and Shrewsbury gave him the treatment, something which all our players will have to get used to.
I will be more than happy with a mid-table finish and the experience it should give us to progress from there.

Its a cup game, against a lower league side, and we won, played loads of squad players and got a clean sheet
I think reading anything else into that is more than a little silly

Glad I went. Nice new ground and nice town. Did like the old ground though. 1st half was very slow sideways and backwards. Like a flattish triangle with BBF at the top. Barnes didn’t have much service but he was poor. He isn’t going to make much happen and has lost pace. I’m not sure he’d do a job in League 1 but probably would in 2. Benson looked better and thought CJ and Churlinov did well. Think we need to move the ball quicker and sometimes be more direct.

Re: Shrewsbury v Burnley Match Thread
I think that Kompany is trying to get us play the Man City way with a much lower standard of player. Unfortunately what makes City a great team is the pace, speed of thought and movement quality. This makes it hard for other teams to defend. Our version being not of the same quality allows lesser quality teams to defend quite easily.
It is very early days and I think the signs are good as the new players bed in. However, I fear there may be similar games with 70 to 80 per cent possession for most of the season and not too many goals scored or conceded. I think the fans need to be patient with this as the atmosphere in the 2nd half of the Blackpool game can only help the opposition.

That's one of the most stupid things that I've ever read on this messageboard and that takes some doing,!warksclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 9:48 pmI know modern footballers are generally all very professional. However seeing him on the team sheet will be demotivating to the team

Agree with most of Boss Hoggs' assessment of the game.
First time I've seen the new Burnley this season and even though we
had a number of our potentially better players out we did try and play football
but with little meaningful penetration.
Did also think we looked a little light weight and small all round. Shrewsbury bossed with headers .
Still it was a good night out and at least I saw the team win.

Re: Shrewsbury v Burnley Match Thread
This was a complete bore fest, we take possession but we are so slow to move the ball that all the opposition players are back behind the ball and we really do struggle to find space, players were making the runs but the man with the ball didn`t pick them out and opted for a backward or sideways pass, Bastien was a serial offender of this, he may have scored but other than that he did sweet FA and slowed the game down, surely VK must be able to see that we need to move the ball forward quicker not necessarily going long just the whole team moving forward as a unit with the interchanging of passes whilst there is still space for the front men to run in to. Dyche ball had become turgid over the last couple of seasons but watching this tedious chess like play isn`t that far removed. We have some good young players now they have an abundance of energy let them use it.

Brian Clough once said fans would be happy with a win even if its 1-0 .These are the games we lost previously .A good result,on towards Wembley.

My view on one of the main reasons behind the wide dissatisfaction at the minute is how we played at Huddersfield. Especially the first half.Woodleyclaret wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 1:34 amBrian Clough once said fans would be happy with a win even if its 1-0 .These are the games we lost previously .A good result,on towards Wembley.
The football was amazing - quick, incisive and confident. Most people got carried away and thought we would walk the league. Myself included. Which is completely daft but that’s football.
If we continue winning all the noise about the style of play will die down. But we’ve had 3 frustrating results in the league so frustrations are high at the minute.

Re: Shrewsbury v Burnley Match Thread
Precisely last night was all about the result, and it was never going to be easy as Shrewsbury are no mugs, and SC knows how to set up a team to frustrate the opposition.Lancasterclaret wrote: ↑Tue Aug 23, 2022 11:09 pmIts a cup game, against a lower league side, and we won, played loads of squad players and got a clean sheet

However we kept the back door shut, and found a way to win a tight game.
And last night will have been the 1st time most of those players will have played together,
Plus 5 of the starting XI were making their first full appearances of the season.
Yes we need to make improvements, and VK will be well aware of that, but it's generally been a decent start to the season considering all the upheaval during the summer.

To those who were there - how did Peacock-Farrell play?
Did he use his feet to help play it out from the back?

BPF had obviously been told to play it out from the back. He was a slower but still composed version of Muric. Didn’t look all that comfortable with his passing but it all worked fine.

Yes he did. He did ok for me playing like that but wasnt tested too much. Released the ball much quicker than Muric so less heart in mouth moments.forzagranata wrote: ↑Wed Aug 24, 2022 2:25 pmTo those who were there - how did Peacock-Farrell play?
