Excellent piece by the brilliant Ros Hawkins on the BBC about rising food prices.
Russia banning exports of key ingredients for fertiliser on top of the cost of gas needed to produce it will hit food yields and costs of food will rocket.

The very significant Russian minority in Ukraine has been completely alienated from Russia by the brutality of the actions in the areas where they all live

I am so ambivalent about anything but my family right now. Seeing Chelsea fans kicking and screaming on social media that their repugnant owner has been sanctioned isn't even giving me joy. Everything in the world just feels so irrelevant now, such is the clear existential threat hanging over us all.
Never felt so worried, frankly.

The only thing I can suggest that causes de escalation is Russia loses enough equipment and resources either they retreat or the Ukrainians push them back.
In my opinion it’s why Zelensky wants a no fly zone, without Russian air support he believes they do just that. Push them back.

There is definitely a feeling among Western leaders that Ukraine defences are getting the better of the Russian airforce, and with the new weapons being sent, they will improve further - understandably Zelenskiy wants belt and braces.Lowbankclaret wrote: ↑Thu Mar 10, 2022 4:09 pmIt is invading all our thoughts, the whole thing is horrific.

Re: Russia Invades
Planes flying near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad and near Finland’s eastern border with Russia have noticed interference with their GPS signals, according to Finnish authorities.
Reuters has reported that Finland’s flag carrier Finnair has noticed interference with its planes’ GPS signals soon after Finland’s President Sauli Niinistö met Joe Biden in Washington on Saturday to discuss deepening defense ties between Finland and Nato due to Russia’s attack on Ukraine.
Kaliningrad is a Russian province situated between NATO member countries Lithuania and Poland, south of Finland.
Prime Minister Sanna Marin told Reuters she had no information about the source of the disturbances, and would refuse to say if it originated in Russia.
“If they would be caused by outside influence, it would surely be said publicly,” Marin said.
There has been no official response from Russian authorities regarding the matter.
A number of Finnair’s Asian-bound flights and most of its European ones go past Kaliningrad, which is sandwiched between NATO members Lithuania and Poland on the Baltic Sea’s eastern coast.
Traficom, the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency, said it had asked aviation authorities to alert pilots to the situation by issuing an official Notice to Airmen notification.
The disturbances were continuing, it said.
“Flying is still safe. Airlines have operational procedures for such situations if the GPS signal is lost,” Traficom’s director Jari Pöntinen said in a statement.
Lithuanian airline Transaviabaltika said it had been forced to cancel 18 flights between Helsinki and Savonlinna in eastern Finland after the lack of GPS made it impossible to land, due to Savonlinna airport not having alternative navigation equipment.

Some of the stats I did find.
In Afghanistan Russia had 1 soldier to 9 civilians. They lost.
They have 1 soldier to 144 or 166 depending on source in Ukraine.
They have 1 soldier to each 3 sq km of Ukrainian soil.
I have also read they have committed 65% of resources to this invasion, that does not leave a lot in reserve, in case it kicks off at home.

Found a couple but no idea what’s close to the truth. This lines up with a few of them. So if the 65% is true, that’s about 1,500 tanks committed to the battle field. Let’s assume those in Storage are so old and not maintained they would probably not work or not for long.
