He looked impressive when he came on against us in a little cameo appearance. Not sure why he didn't feature much for them last year though.Ooogeorgeorgeoghani wrote:Isaac success , Nigerian striker currently at Watford

Who in their right mind would take Ings, fitness would be & is a real concern, we have lost pace & power & need to replace like for like which most teams have in the Prem, were well blessed with good target men need the pace elemeny now. Watford have a big brute with pace & power who caused up no amount of problems when he came on who might be a good shout.

Get your money on Lucas Perez - £14m should get him.
That's what I think anyway.

The Watford player you're referring to may be M'baye Niang who was on loan there from Milan back end of last season. Presume he's still a Milan player, but yes he was a handful, big strong and rapid.Stockbrokerbelt wrote:Who in their right mind would take Ings, fitness would be & is a real concern, we have lost pace & power & need to replace like for like which most teams have in the Prem, were well blessed with good target men need the pace elemeny now. Niang. Wants to come back to england. Has linked hinself with arsenal and everton. Just to offer a bit of balance, Wood did score 27 goals in the Championship last season which is pretty impressive. He's only 25 as well which is obviously another plus. However, I've seen his goals and most of them are sweaty tap-ins. I've seen little to suggest that he's much more than a 1-season wonder to be honest. Plus his goal celebrations are crap.

Re: New striker incoming
17 appearances last year and 2 in Cup, only 1 goal, but I seem to remember they played him more as a winger/wide man as he is very fast, I think he lost out when Niang came in as he is still only 21 and would expect way down the pecking order now.Ooogeorgeorgeoghani wrote:Isaac success , Nigerian striker currently at Watford

Re: New striker incoming
Chris Wood is a good player and Indigo said a lot of his goals are tap ins, but that's because he knows where to be. You'd be surprised how often he's in the right place at the right time to get those tap ins. He just knows where to run. However, as much as I think he's a very good forward, he's not someone I'd replace Gray with. If we signed Wood, we'd still need a pacey direct forward like Gray, and I can't see us signing 2. Long would be a better option.

I'd be happy enough with Shane Long and one of Dawson/Shawcross.
I'm sure I'm missing out on some wonderkid playing for a painfully hipster club in the Eredivisie or Ligue One who's like a total beast or something. But I've seen those three play well in the Prem for a few years so I reckon they'll be good.

Charlie Austin would be the very best we could hope for, but his injury problems and him probably seeing us as a backward step make it unlikely.

Re: New striker incoming
It's all subjective really, put a player in a position to score and it's how he reacts. Long is quite sharp in and around the box and good in the air with a terrific spring for a smallish lad. If we were to buy him and play him into good positions I'm sure his return would improve.
He is the only one I know much about, most of the overseas players are just names, some exotic and others pronounceable.
We have a good record of bringing in the right tools for the job, If we get a striker let's just hope he turns out to be as good as Andy Gray, Austin, Ings and Andre Gray. I won't include Fletcher as much was made of him but his scoring record with us, and before and after isn't anywhere near those mentioned.

I'd definitely have him back on ability but same situation as Ings for me. An injury waiting to happen with his record. A lower risk loan then maybe but I'd still want insurance with another striker too.ClaretEngineer wrote:Please can it be Charlie Austin.

I don't think it would matter too much, so long as our new look midfield has licence to bombard the box with crosses. He's certainly no slouch either.agreenwood wrote:Charlie Austin would be the very best we could hope for, but his injury problems and him probably seeing us as a backward step make it unlikely.

If it is Long has there ever been a time when BFC has had three players with the same surname?

If would also childishly amuse me as his shirt would read 'S.Long'.

Re: New striker incoming
I wouldn't be overly happy with Long. He's not far off 31, which means we'll be getting the tail end of his career.
He's never really been prolific either. His best ever Prem season saw him score 10. Every other season has been single digits.

Re: New striker incoming
Anyone thinking Gray will be easy to replace/improve upon - look at the names mentioned on this thread and others. They're either not good enough, similar to what we've already got, not prolific or unrealistic.
We require a striker who's quick, powerful, can hold the ball up, can play on the shoulder of the last man, can score double figures (ideally approaching twenty goals) and ideally someone who's young enough for us to make a profit on.
Who's that? Where are they? How much will they cost? Are they going to want to come to Burnley?

King, Defoe, Llorente, Vardy, Deeney, Vokes. They're the players who played for a bottom-13 club last year who scored 10 goals or more. 10 is prolific at our level.

We've got £50m in unbudgeted transfer fees this summer, plus whatever we were going to spend before that came in. Minus the £20m or whatever it is we've already spent and we've got a huge amount to go and invest on someone who can continue the production line.HelloHiGoodbye wrote:Anyone thinking Gray will be easy to replace/improve upon - look at the names mentioned on this thread and others. We're now moving into the spheres of signing players for £20m+ with an aim of selling for a profit.
That means the recruitment team have to work overtime, throughout Europe, to unearth that gem who offers pace and finishing ability. We can offer higher wages than are available at most clubs in Europe, bar the elite, and that must surely appeal to an ambitious player wanting to prove himself in England.
We can show them what Burnley Football Club can do for a player. Show them Heaton and Keane's England caps. Show them where Keane, Ings and Trippier have gone after using us as a springboard. Show them videos of us beating Liverpool and Man City and Everton and Blackburn and what it means to the players and fans.
Tell them that if they come to Turf Moor, they will be offered playing time, support, and we will not stand in their way if they do so well that a bigger club offering more money comes in for them.

If bfccrazy thinks this striker is capable of getting 15 goals for us, its not going to be Shane Long. My guess is its somebody who actually has hit this amount in the prem before at some point, step forward Wlifred Bony.

Bony, more than any of the other UK-based players mentioned, would seem to fit the bill but only, of course if City agree to pay 50% (maybe more!) of his weekly wage.Conroy92 wrote:If bfccrazy thinks this striker is capable of getting 15 goals for us, its not going to be Shane Long.
