I always hate it when fielders throw it away instantly.

I think more of them should be called as not in control, if honest.

He didn’t throw it away, his hand hit his thigh on the way down which dislodged the ball. Incredibly unlucky.

I know people disagree but this test has highlighted exactly why Anderson should not have been selected. He’s just not been threatening all series

As he was in the process of going to throw the ball in the air.
Sadly, that dropped catch is yet another example of England making stupid mistakes/errors at critical points in the game and should be filed under ‘schoolboy’ error along with far too many errors this series. As a previous poster said, we have got to start learning from these basic errors by taking some responsibility if we are to fall on the right side of these closely fought series.

Don’t think that’s the case at all. Both his arms came up to shoulder level naturally to balance himself.

Stokes was absolutely in the process of chucking that up in the air, he literally brought his arm round in a circular motion to chuck it back up in the air.

Absolute pet peeve and I think these should get called moreZ

I think you should have a solid control of the ball for over a second

I'm sure he would have thrown the ball up but his arm was still making a natural movement as part of taking the catch which is why he was not deemed "in control". Impossible to say whether the thought of throwing the ball made any difference.

This England team has become pretty good at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Tends to be accurate.

Hasn’t the average amount of swing this series been 0.36 of a degree. Apparently the lowest in a home series since we played Pakistan in 2006.

Unless he dramatically turns it round in the last few hours it will statistically be the worst series of his career for England.

There’s been all sorts of theory’s as to why this has been the case, but the general conclusion seems to be the ball.

Stephen Finn also mentioned that he believes it’s been a tactic of the bowlers, he believes they identified seam movement as a better way to bowl at the Aussies. Personally not sure I agree

Interestingly, if it does stop raining soon, the point has been made that there might not be enough time for Australia to win the match, but they could certainly lose it with a couple of quick wickets.

Fair enough opinion, but I don’t agree. I think he knows exactly what he’s trying to do there and he should have been much more careful in holding the ball. He caught it above his head, I see no reason why his hand couldn’t have stayed up there to be honest to confirm he has control of the ball! Interesting to hear what he says when he is inevitably asked the question, if he hasn’t already been asked?
