Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
Re: Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
Scott Parker seemed to have some special words for Esteve at the end there.

A good win that.
Of course it’d have been nice to have put the game to bed a lot earlier on, but we were by far the better side over the ninety minutes.

How can a team dominate for 60 mins then play like a pub team ? Obviously it was easier playing into the wind SP will say.

BIG THREE POINTS.
Nowhere near how good we can be yet and keeps us challenging while Injuries are piling up

A good win that although it should have been a lot easier. A much improved performance and imo Jay made a massive difference in the first three quarters of the game

And up goes the cry “to the Burnley 1-0”.
It was like watching a rerun of our win at Elland Road. Get a goal in the first half and backs to the wall stuff in the second period.
A precious 3 points away from home. UTC

Very pleased with that. Tough conditions against a side that’s only lost 3 this season, and they didn’t deserve to lose against Sheff Utd recently. Real control for 60-70 minutes, some promising signs of combination play and chance creation, while showing grit, desire and determination to win the game for the last 20 or so.

Good performance. Bristol City at home were obviously going to be the better side for some parts of the game. Very good job from the manager and players.
Re: Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
Are the moaners out yet?
Re: Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
First 60 minutes was among the best performances of the season. Some sloppy ball retention in the later stages, but the team did well to dig deep and secure the three points. UTC

You do realise that there are 2 teams playing, don't you?
They changed it, went for it, yet still only had one chance against your pub side, who managed the game well, and came away with a good win

Very good first hour but most will remember the Roman Tortoise formation for the last 40.

Job done. Performance better for the first hour. On to Tuesday now.
Re: Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
We had the better chances and I felt that the conditions in the second half helped them more than us,their direct style meant the ball didn't get bogged down like it did for us all told a fantastic result against a form team.

Levels above them for the majority of the game. Plenty of work to do still, need to ensure we don’t let teams back in like we did in the second half. Very positive overall.

Good win, and it should've been 3-0.
We showed more resilience at the end there, but it was a bit of a crap way to finish a game.
Said give it time, back the manager!

Oh, they will be. They'll overlook most of the game and spend all weekend on here moaning about the final 20 minutes or so.
A good win in very difficult conditions. I'm off out to the local to meet up with a couple of mates and we'll no doubt celebrate our 3 away points while downing a few jars.

Thought that Bristol did a job on Hannibal for 15 minutes just after 1/2 time and the ref kept letting them foul him which resulted in losing his cool and them getting into the match.

No doubt there will still be fans moaning, like that idiot on X who posted the price of Scott Parker’s coat during the game.
How about just support your team instead of craving likes

Very dominant for first 60 or so. Should have finished them off then but held on well. Good performance and deserved result.
Re: Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
Great example of what happens when you don’t take your chances
Had we got a second City would not have caused us so much trouble
Still too many easy passes go astray
As others have posted Jay was very good today
Keep him in and let’s see if he can have the same impact as Ashley two seasons ago

Honestly thought Hannibal was excellent in the first half and linked well with Anthony.
Second half Bristol played him differently, got him booked and then we were far less threatening.

I was impressed with Anthony, especially during our good spell in the second half. Looked to run at players and make things happen. Hopefully more of the same now as he looked far more dangerous.

Re: Match thread Burnley vs Bristol City (a)
I can't help feeling it's another example of us tending to look a far better side offensively away from home because the opposition need to be more positive and that gives us more openings. At the Turf they just want the draw and are shameless about how they go about getting it and that's where we can look extremely average as we struggle against purely defensive set ups. It's one reason why we looked so much better in the WBA match than the Swansea match. We've definitely got the players to exploit teams at this level if they leave gaps.

Signs are there we are getting better with more incisive movement, one-touch play and some individual brilliance.
Overall, it was great 3 points against a decent side with a clean sheet and with more to come.
Good day all in all.

He was losing the ball well after the start of the game and it had nothing to do with his yellow card.

On the train in the way home. Their subs changed the game and we sat a bit too deep but we defended very well and I never thought they were going to get back in it. Conditions weren’t great but we played some lovely stuff. We had to dig in for 20 mins or so but once the clock ticked past 80 mins I thought we managed the game well. A special word for Anthony who looked a real threat amd was first to run to the fans at the end
