Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Plenty of money (relatively) for right players after the sales extravaganza of late summer 24. More a case of a sensible approach with promotion not guaranteed and the fact we already have a bloated squad.summitclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 5:00 pmAgree. Can't think we have any money left to spend anyway after the blow out in Summer of 23.
We need to be far more adventurous at home. This includes letting Roberts loose, the back line much further up the pitch, Foster up top with Flemming behind him and Shelvey in for Laurent. I'd also play Brownhill wide left tucking in as well, with Pires at left back.
Not sure about putting Brownhill wide. Pires I rate and I think SP has it right sharing the lb berth dependant on opposition.

I thought he had already rejected us. Out of contract in the summer.adropofclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 5:00 pmJust read a news article linking us with WBA attacking midfielder Grady Diangana![]()

Maybe I'm in the minority but I won't be overly fussed if we don't sign anyone else. We have plenty of talent in the squad already. We should be focusing on getting more out of the players we have (and I'm sure we are) .

Sounds crazy, but has Scotty ever thought about playing Foster up front with Flemming sat just behind
Maybe just the fact that it means two attackers starting brings him out in a panic

I've been thinking the same and I'd much rather we didn't waste money like SU on bang average championship players disrupting the harmony in the squad. I don't honestly think that even if we did go up that we would do much better than last time with the squad we currently have and the fact we will lose a few with contracts running out and our better players getting snaffled up by the bigger fish......................oh crap it's just dawned on me I'm a Burnley fan 🫣ArmchairDetective wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 7:19 pmMaybe I'm in the minority but I won't be overly fussed if we don't sign anyone else. Lost count of how many people have suggested and posted this in the last few months. Why not try this in the Saints game-good opposition so a test for us and the pairing, and if we lose so what, we have gone out to a PL side.jojomk1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 7:25 pmWe could maybe get more out of them if we try and play them in other positions

It needs to happen against Oxford. As I have said before, win 1 and lose 2 home games in a row gets the same points as 3 draws.
We only potentially need to be careful against SU now.

Goodness, we have gone from the highs of VK transfer windows, to the lows of a Dyche type transfer window where we self justify not improving the team because the status quo is more important to maintain. I think any incoming would Depend on the fitness of Ramsay and Tresor. If they are ready shortly then that attacking line becomes pretty formidable.
But it’s anyone’s guess.

If the January window closes without at least one quality addition in forward areas then Tresor really will represent the last Resort.

Not really what I meant but I'd STILL rather we didn't spunk the limited resources on the same calibre the other promotion contenders are doing this transfer period.

You can’t make the word Resort out of Duff so he wouldn’t be a good fit.

I think we need to go up this year.....next will be harder. Even if we don't spend & get clobbered every week. 100million is nowt to be sneezed at...it might take a couple of seasons of yo-yoing to build a squad capable of staying up.warksclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 4:36 pmYou have to assume Mr Pace would be happy being in the play-offs if it remains quiet, as I suspect the majority of fans are 50/50 whether we get auto promotion, or a play-offs, particularly with Sheff Utd's incomings.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
So another knock back on an attacking player. Not getting a decent forward in during this window could be a catastrophic mistake if we suffer any long term injury to Flemming, Brownhill or Foster (even though he is not actually scoring goals) because resorting to Barnes or Jayrod is not likely to be enough to get us into the automatic places at the end of the season. I had posted previously that Houtondji should not have been loaned out until a replacement had been brought in. It would seem at the time this was done it was assumed Whittaker would be coming in and I'm glad he wasn't as I didn't think he was the right player for us however not getting someone in before that Houtondji loan now looks a poor decision indeed. I shudder to think how this Board will react if we fail to get someone and we fail to get promoted. Here's hoping we bring in some quality before the window shuts.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
People keep giving me lots of reasons not to want to go up and I agree with all of them (losing much of the time, games being uncompetitive, VAR, big team bias etc, etc etc), but £125 million simply blows all contrary arguments out of the water. We need that money and without it we could disappear into the fog and start the decline to treading water in the Championship, or worse, like countless clubs I could name (Stoke, West Brom, Norwich, Watford... loads) It doesn't matter how it's achieved, but promotion is an absolute must and Pace knows it.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
You clearly missed me then. If we get no-one in and we suffer along term injury to our main goalscorers / forwards we are taking a huge gamble because the cover is inadequat. Hountindji hadn't been given much of a chance to show his qualities but we loaned him out when Flemming wasn't firing at that point, Foster wasn't and still isn't scoring and Barnes and Jayrod may be able to contribute but no-one can surely believe that they will get us over the line if required for a lot of games. Even if they played we would still be short of cover during a game if they needed substituting with Flemming or Foster injured. Houtondji at least was cover and did have some ability and after all we didn't release him or sell him we have only loaned him. Surely you can see that to loan him out with no-one coming in is a poor state of affairs.fidelcastro wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 9:35 pmI haven't heard one person say that we're missing Hountondji or that we will end up doing.

Re: January Transfer Window Rumours
Was about to post that I support not rushing to panic buy, on the basis that I feel Tella is sure to sign in the summer if not in the next few days which I still regard as possible. I suspect he realises he will only be a regular PL starter with us, even if he is good enough to get some games elsewhere - with “better” teams, players like Nathan end up as squad players like at Beyer. We could name a dozen players recently at that level who have had that experience (Mee, Westwood, Heaton, Ings). Heck, even Chris Wood will probably look back in years to come and say his time at Burnley was the highlight of his career. Of our multi-year players Trippier and Pope are rare exceptions.
I then realised that having that thought process meant I automatically assumed we are going to be promoted and haven’t even considered we won’t be.
Weird how the brain works. In my experience it tends to be right when it works instinctively like that

Pace keeping his powder dry until Summer. Pay big bucks now for the poacher we need and NOT get promoted we have taken a massive step back. Get up with current squad, plus a possible loan, and look to buy better quality using the PL as an enticer.
