Bony is by far the best of the names that have been listed here. Hasn't had much of a run at City but his record at Swansea: 26 goals in 54 appearances.

Just had a look back through my posts, but I can't find one that suggested we needed a 20-goal a season striker.Papabendi wrote:So which 20 goal a season Premier League striker do you suggest - and is willing to come to Burnley?
In any event, there's little in Long's history to suggest he'd score even half that many.

We all know what a great club we are, please stop mentioning Bony,we have zero chance of signing him,it would never enter his head to sign for us.

Bony or Ings for me. Bony is like Gray, but imo better, stronger and a more clinical finisher. He'd have to take a pay cut mind.

I'm another one who can't understand the long obsession. You could just change his name to Sam Vokes and nobody would know the difference. Definitely not the type of striker we need.

Bony doesn't have the pace, but he can finish. Sometimes he plays as though he's just finished a 7 course meal before playing as well though.

Don't know what the obsession with pace is all about. We very rarely play a style that exploits any pace our forwards had, let's face it Gray didn't get lots of quality through balls to run onto apart from the Sunderland game. I'd rather have somebody who knows where the net is and I don't care if he has the pace of Stephen Hawkins as long as he scores

Without the threat of pace the opposition defence can sit on the half way line, knowing full well that a forward line of Barnes and Vokes couldn't make it 10 yards before being caught up by a Premier League level defender.Andreshotboots wrote:Don't know what the obsession with pace is all about. When Gray had his four match ban we played Watford followed by Arsenal, Southampton and Everton. We won two and lost two and were very unlucky against Arsenal.UpTheBeehole wrote:Without the threat of pace the opposition defence can sit on the half way line, knowing full well that a forward line of Barnes and Vokes couldn't make it 10 yards before being caught up by a Premier League level defender.
He wasn't missed that much in those matches.

I think the OP is an agent of the Board.
They are simply assessing which player will keep their grumpy fans happy.
Then they will go with their £50m cheque and buy him
Fantastic recruitment policy, relying on those who know best

Forgot about Palace at home when Vokes and JBG seemed to cut through them with ease. Did we struggle with pace that game?Tall Paul wrote:Like Crystal Palace did when we beat them twice last season? Or Everton and Watford at home?

We didn't play Barnes and Vokes in the Everton, Watford and Palace home games. We played 4-5-1 in 3 of those wins, and the other, Erm Andre Gray scored in the other after we utilised his pace.Tall Paul wrote:Like Crystal Palace did when we beat them twice last season? Why what's the difference then, he's not that quick, he holds the ball up, sets others up and scores the odd good goal exactly what big Sam does.burnmark wrote:Shane Long is the same sort of player as Sam Vokes?

Re: New striker incoming
He is quicker than Andre Gray, about half Vokes height and definitely does not hold the ball up. He is essentially like an Irish version of Michael Owen (albeit significantly crapper obviously). He is really decent in the air for his height though, good spring.claret3561 wrote:Why what's the difference then, he's not that quick, he holds the ball up, sets others up and scores the odd good goal exactly what big Sam does.
I am a fan, I think if he started 38 games for us he would notch 8-10 which means he would be replacing Andre's contribution (which is what we need, as a minimum).

Re: New striker incoming
We can't sign Shane Long because we've already got Kevin and Chris Long.
Kevin's shirt says K.Long
Chris' shirt says C.Long
Shane's shirt would have to say S.Long
and that's far too close to having schlong on the shirt

Re: New striker incoming
But it proves 4-5-1 worked well in a number of games. I think the issue was more Defour being injured or struggling in our formation. If he'd have been a success straight away we might have seen far less of Andre as 4-5-1 would have been utilised more often than it was.UpTheBeehole wrote:We didn't play Barnes and Vokes in the Everton, Watford and Palace home games. Re: New striker incoming
Defour wasn't strugging in a 4-5-1 though was he, we won those games.
Such a shame Dyche binned off what was a successful formation in order to go full hoofball 4-4-2 for the second half of the season, resulting in just 2 wins from 16.

But it certainly is a good point that we might not miss Gray as much as we think, and we now have a better midfield than last season with the addition of Cork, and hopefully a fully fit Defour at the top of his game.UpTheBeehole wrote:Defour wasn't strugging in a 4-5-1 though was he, we won those games.

Re: New striker incoming
So what makes you think we'll have to play Barnes and Vokes now that Gray has gone? I'm well aware Gray scored the second against Palace, but we were already 1-0 up with Barnes and Vokes up front for 80 minutes.UpTheBeehole wrote:We didn't play Barnes and Vokes in the Everton, Watford and Palace home games. Yes, it's fair to say that you still have to be in the right position in the first place and take the chances that come your way. However, I also want us to sign a different style of player to Wood who is too similar to Vokes and Barnes, in my opinion.FactualFrank wrote:Chris Wood is a good player and Indigo said a lot of his goals are tap ins, but that's because he knows where to be. You'd be surprised how often he's in the right place at the right time to get those tap ins. He just knows where to run. However, as much as I think he's a very good forward, he's not someone I'd replace Gray with. If we signed Wood, we'd still need a pacey direct forward like Gray, and I can't see us signing 2. Long would be a better option.

I've heard it's Danny Welbeck.
Down the pecking order at Arsenal. Feels he needs game time to have hopes of being in the England squad come next summer, Wants to move back north.
Just what I've heard.
