Ashley Young may be getting on but he’s another player that has been levels above anything we’ve got.
On a short term basis he could be an excellent addition.

I'd be happy with Ashley Young for a year. I think he'd add a lot to the team, and crucially he's not one of these ageing pros who'd be unavailable more often than they are. He's very, very fit and I think he'd play a lot of games.
Nathan Collins at £12m would also be an excellent addition.

Are people really turning their nose up at Ashley Young? Really?
Just won Serie A, with a manager that is probably the most demanding in the game, and somehow he isn’t good enough for us?
Young would be a fantastic acquisition for a year.
It appears some are turning up their noses - amazing given his quality and record.

Bizarre ain’t it…. Do a great job, very fit, only short term I grant you but what a player and what a lad in the changing room. This wouldn’t be a “drinkwater” type risk, be no risk at all. You absolutely KNOW what you are getting and it’s just what we need out there. Gives us time to get our scouts around the pitches again looking for that absolute bargain we need.

He’d be a brilliant signing for a year. Could play either full back role or either side out wide. Anyone suggesting otherwise has ideas way above their station for us.

Where has the Ashley Young link come from? We do think there is something in it?

Darren Anderson at the mirror has just tweeted that it looks like we are pulling off a major coup and signing Ashley Young.
Looks like a two year contract

Would be an interesting signing, has experience etc to pass on to the younger lads.
Great work ethic.
So long as it fits in our budget, I don't really see an issue.

Where does he (Young) play these days?
I've seen him at left back, right back, right midfield and he played in the World Cup semi finals in centre midfield.

He could play or cover either fullback role. Wing back if a change of system comes in (doubtful hence my earlier post) and both wings. I’d take him for a year no questions, but 2 years? If the second year had some sort of coaching role included then absolutely .

Reminds me of a Milner, will play multiple roles and I suspect he would be fine at RM.

I’m all for it, but hoping it’s not in place of signing someone for the right wing.
Could also allow us to try Dwight centrally if we were to play one striker sometimes.

This is a strange one in that I don’t think he would/should displace Lowts or Charlie in the full back positions, and we have adequate cover in both. If he’s intended as a RW I’d be dissappointed we hadn’t gone for youth and pace - someone who can beat their man.
If he’s being brought in as wing cover for either Dwight or a new RW, or to play in a 5 as Dyche toyed with at the end of the season, I’d be very much behind it.
Another way of looking at it is he’d cover Charlie and Pieters would cover Mee so we don’t need to buy Worrall.
Good lad with a great attitude and would certainly help in the dressing room, especially if we lost Tarks’ presence.

Absolutely mind blowing that some are turning their nose up at a lad who appeared in 2/3 of the games in a Conte team which won Serie A last year.

He'll come in on a short term deal, play a few games & pick a serious injury up & then just see his time out on biggish wages for us anyhow & some of us will be complaining about what a bad signing it was & hindsights a wonderful thing blah blah, mystic Jakubclarets take, I think he's already stated he wants to return to his boyhood club (Watford) anyway, PL or no PL won't be the lure, he won't be short of a few bob so I think he'll end up at Watford as a destination.

He may still be well established in the Manchester/Cheshire area and want to come home. Plus he might fancy 'studying,' management under SD in a stable environment which Watford isn't.

Where has this idea of coaching come from? Maybe he just wants the longest contract. And maybe we are just a more attractive proposition than Watford.

He will be like all footballers and go where the money is.
If a premier league club is daft enough to hand him a 2 year deal at 36, he will crawl to the club on his hands and knees

His age is fairly irrelevant. The important thing is his condition and fitness level.

Was hoping we'd be looking to bring in some younger players this summer. I don't think giving 2 year deals to 36 year olds who are just looking for one last payday is the way forward.

Do you really think a lad that is coming from the Serie A champions after featuring in nearly every game when Fit won’t start every week for Burnley?
Good grief, if young comes to Burnley he starts every single game (fitness permitted)
That’s what the poster I quoted seemed to suggest.

Name any other out field players at 36 who play regularly for a premier league club?
I bet you can't because I guarantee they won't be any. Pick up an injury or knock at 36 and you are out for months. Crazy signing he would never play

As above age irrelevant. Improves the squad and a better option than the likes of Brady. As long as we follow it up with some younger signings.

His body will not be able to recover from the stress of playing at Premier league level for him to get enough games under his belt to make it a worthwhile signing

2 players named, one plays for City, tother for Chelsea.
I would be surprised if Burnley can afford to tie a 36 year old down to a 2 year contract, the same applies to anyone bar the likes of City and Chelsea

Would Dychey know Ashley Young from his Watford days?
We are due one of these old boys signings working. Coming off the back of a Serie A title in which he played a full part puts the idea of the signing way ahead of Reid, Lennon, Crouch or Walters (albeit the latter was very much undermined by an unfortunate injury).

Thiago Silva hasn't played regularly at Chelsea, and City's squad is so good that Fernandinho gets plenty of games off.

I don't see him replacing McNeil or Taylor
Could he play on the right side of midfield - maybe
Could we expect him to still be playing at almost 38
If he is asking for two years it may be a bit costly for the two, but then again that's just like Stephens
