Don’t think it necessarily dictates his ability. I’ve said on this thread before that I think his kicking / playing out from the back stops him from being selected for England / a big club. It’s necessary for keepers now. As a keeper though, he’s absolutely top drawer and his stats for us over the years prove.

Like I said before, it’s who can justify a fee north of £20m for a keeper, generally only the top sides can.

There’s very little between Ramsdale and Pickford. Can you honestly say Pope is better than both?

If we are talking shot stopping, command of area, and all other ‘standard’ keeper roles - yes. Way behind in his distribution though.

But that’s the difference isn’t it? Top keepers need an all round game, that’s why they get to the top level.

Like I said Pope is a great keeper but he’s not on the same level as Ramsdale and Pickford because they are better all round.

I think your missing the point that most of us think Pope keeps the ball out of the net better than Ramsdale and Pickford. They can kick it out more accurately but I know what I'd prefer from a keeper!!

Watching Pickford, it's arguable that his distribution is better. It goes over the players head or into touch most of the time.

Just seen a link for Pope to Newcastle, who are also looking at Brighton’s Sanchez.

That would be the most obvious club, as they can afford him, plus Howe likes his core English contingent.

I’d imagine Pope would be available for a lower price than Sanchez.

Pope's a top goalkeeper, I thought that was pretty obvious. The problem for us selling him is GK's are generally the cheapest position in the market and the PL is pretty stacked with top goalkeepers.

All this discussion about whether it's new strikers, midfielders or centre-backs that we're short of when the harshest reality of all, is that since Joe Hart & Jeff Hendrick left, neither the old nor new directors/management have got their fingers out and signed us a decent whipping-boy. I accept that Stephens & JBG have tried, but neither plays often enough (or at all) to be properly 'blamed' for our failures; a few of the other players have perhaps garnered more than their fair share - Josh Brownhill springs to mind - of abuse but for the most part those gripes are usually being instigated by either Newcastle or KRBFC and let's be honest, nobody really takes either of those seriously.

No, what out club needs most and urgently; is an established - we can't risk something this vital on some 'promising' youngster - and top quality Scapegoat for the baying mob to get behind.

Josh Brownhill springs to mind - of abuse but for the most part those gripes are usually being instigated by either Newcastle or KRBFC and let's be honest, nobody really takes either of those seriously.

I barely criticised Brownhill at all, the jury was out for me, judging him now, he wasn't good enough last season. Newcastle has a serious agenda against Brownhill and did since the day he signed, I gave Brownhill over a year before really judging him and I don't slag him off much either, just that he's not good enough for the PL and I'd like to see us sell him this summer if decent money comes in. I'm sorry if that opinion offends you but it's the truth, he makes basic mistakes, offers nothing in the final third and gives the ball away high up the field over and over again, leading to us getting counter attacked consistently.

Nixon linking us with Blackpool right back Jordan Gabriel, as Connor Roberts may attract PL attention.

To be honest, that’s pretty much the last position I was hoping for a link to.

I must say I’d be surprised that Roberts gets a move back to the Prem, though Forest with Cooper (played for him at Swansea) might look to him, with Spence probably going to Spurs.

Also, James McAtee from City linked with a loan to Huddersfield, he’s the exact player we need and should be all over, I’d be really disappointed if he goes to Huddersfield.
