It shouldn't effect the decision at all because it's highly likely these clubs will sing the song for months if not years anyway
Sad but true I'm afraid.

Imagine the scenes at Rothwell vs Drighlington U7s.

I see kids games are being played in Scotland this weekend.

The world is always watching the premier league, Scottish and Irish clubs will sings this all season just like Burnley fans still sing Walkers in a box when he died god knows how many years ago.
This will be worse in the Glasgow derby and also if any English clubs play Scottish clubs in Europe probably bar Rangers.

Reports this morning regarding the postponements:

‘Concern that tributes to the Queen may not have been universally respected, and the potential for global embarrassment if fans were disrespectful, was a factor in the decision to call off all football in the U.K. this weekend.’

So it looks like RV was right again ;)

Except the reports you refer to (Daily Mail) were made last night, before you made your point. Oh, and the article you referred to is inaccurate - not all football in the UK has been called off this weekend.

Other than that, bang on the money again RV! ;)

Nope I mentioned it a few times yesterday, particularly regarding Liverpool. And I hadn’t seen that report until just now. Most of football has been called off, that’s pretty straight.

Would you trust the scousers at Anfield to respect a minute’s silence? I wouldn’t.

So we pot the entire football programme because some Liverpool fans might act like pricks? Seems entirely proportionate…

Isn’t there going to have to be some kind of tribute first game back anyway?

No, the FA have fallen over themselves to be virtuous and been made to look like mugs because every other sport is on. Even the polo is on, and I bet most of them bloody knew her.

It's genuinely incredible that people have managed to blame the stupid decision to postpone this weekend's football on hypothetical scousers.

Boxing all weekend called off. Racing off yesterday and today.

Football is the national sport, was always going to make a statement. The wrong statement would have been headlines from certain stadiums of disrespect during the minutes silence.

The only reason that the games have been called off this weekend is that the FA jumped the gun and assumed everyone would do it, and it wanted to be seen to lead the way

They then compounded that by stopping all kids football

When you take into the account the hectic schedule we all have to adhere to because we've decided to have a winter World Cup, this is a really poor decision and it looks poorer by the minute

It seems that was a factor (not just scousers, though they are the most likely given a month ago they booed the national anthem at Wembley) in the decision, though unlikely the main factor, it was a factor.

There’s going to be a minute’s silence first game back, surely, anyway? They’ll be one on Tuesday night, for certain. Silly decision.

And arguably in a week's time when the shock of it has died down and everyone has a bit of grief fatigue it's more likely to be not respected.

Exactly, they thought it would be good PR and it's turned out to have had the opposite effect.

It's made them look even more clueless than they were perceived to be.

That’s probably an assumption most people wouldn’t make.

The anti establishment and hate of the royal family that exists won’t suddenly disappear.

In fact it becomes almost an opportunity for it to be seen on the world stage.

Liverpool are home to Ajax on Tuesday, and there will be a minutes silence at all the midweek games.

Should all midweek games therefore be postponed in case some fans boo at these matches?

I think it highly unlikely that children playing competitive football on all our local playing fields this morning would have caused any "global embarrassment" at all.
It's a nonsense excuse because if it was a "factor" then it is simply not applicable to children playing competitive football.
If thought to be absolutely necessary, then cancel high level televised professional football but leave the rest of us alone.
It's a bad error and coming out with nonsense like this compounds it.

Interestingly any disrespect and it will look bad purely on that club, rather than the Premier League. The PL is an English organisation, completely different.

but as I expect there is no booing, it'll make the football authorities looking stupid, spineless and completely out of touch.

We’ll have to agree to disagree on that. I personally don’t think there’s a 100% right or 100% wrong answer and I probably fall in the grey area. I would have backed fixtures going ahead (certainly wouldn’t have whined my head off about it like most on here have done) but also understand completely why the games were called off.

My wife and I got together last evening here over the pond with two scousers and their respective wives. We three males English and the wives American. One of the scousers is anti-royal, the other is pro but resentful of the imposition of mourning, and I’m agnostic, but a keen traditionalist.

The scousers, one an Evertonian, the other the holder of three season tickets, even from here, and whose business literally has Anfield in its name we’re of zero doubt that Liverpool have would have gone off on one.

Personally, I’d suggest that’s not a potential the FA should have concerned itself with as it would reflect on the fans of Liverpool FC and not football in general, who more likely would have followed West Ham’s example

Surely only scousers would show disrespect. As for anyone thinking this is the reason matches were cancelled , they’d need to be blind, deaf , delusional, utterly ignorant and quite possible brain dead to entertain such a ludicrous notion .

Anyone wishing to boo /show displeasure etc can do when the “ silences” are done at next weekends games.

Btw, if we score on Tuesday are supporters and players expected to break out just in light applause as the ball makes its way back to rhe centre circle.

Judging by the huge roars at the test following a wicket I doubt supporters will be expected to simply applaud no.

And what do you mean if we score, surely you mean when we score.

Worth noting the Mail story that started this is a tiny piece of utter supposition, and click baitery. Not a single shred of evidence this was anything more than a tired journo’s bit of feather ruffling . The sort of non existent fluff which Twitter treats as gospel

No of course not life still goes on irrespective of anything I don’t think anybody seriously affected about what’s happened as suggested otherwise but some of the disrespectful comments in the immediate aftermath have been nothing short of disgraceful, thankfully we have some decent posters on here that have recognised that & refused the bait & stayed respectful.
