Fair enough, but even you must admit that there’s a difference between discussing pros and cons of a player and arguing about context and stats especially when some get personal about it. It’s tiresome for those of us who don’t mind the differing opinions that then get spoilt by jibes.

I'm pretty sure if we were all in a pub together there would be a lot more tact and good humour..

Not read this all but was hoping to see an update, from reading the last few posts it seems like you need to quit bickering!
So where is wout currently, at what point does he report back here for duty? Difficult situation.

Probably nothing but someone has pointed out on Twitter that he hasn't been added to the squad list on the club's official website. The players we had on loan are removed and McNally, Egan-Riley and Costelloe are listed.

Re: Weghorst
Apparently the club were going to announce the latest on Weghorst’s situation but they read the last couple of pages of this thread and then forgot. Hopefully if this thread goes quiet in the next couple of days the club will find the time to let us know that he’s currently a Burnley player until he isn’t a Burnley player any more.

I said about a month ago it’s Pace that won’t have Weghorst back. He burnt his bridges with him. Of course immediately got antagonized by the usual messageboard subjects but that’s the state of playdaveisaclaret wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 9:30 pmProbably nothing but someone has pointed out on Twitter that he hasn't been added to the squad list on the club's official website. Re: Weghorst
I watched ‘that Peter Crouch Film’ on Amazon the other night. When they showed the problems Crouch had at Liverpool due to his stature etc. I could see the parallels with Wout. Particularly when Jamie Carragher said Crouch ‘couldn’t hit a barn door with a banjo’. Crouch obviously went on to redeem himself and maybe Wout will do the same. But of the two you can’t help liking Crouchy and there’s something about Wout which suggests he’s not popular with his team mates.

Hope he gets is head down and works is socks off if no one wants him to show he wants to play for us . What is everyone's thoughts on him.

Re: Weghorst back at turf today
Give him a chance. I get why he needed to play elsewhere last year. He's an international striker and was in a world cup year.
If he wants to be here, gets his head down and works hard he could save us a few bob that we could spend elsewhere.
If he's not up for it then get rid.

In Kompany we trust, he will do what he thinks is right, I'd be surprised if he doesn't go but wouldn't be disappointed if he stayed.

Re: Weghorst back at turf today
The slate is wiped clean as far as I am concerned. The club is moving in a different direction since he was last here so the challenge is with him to show the manager and coaches he can fit into the new systems.
Will be interesting to see how this pans out over the coming weeks

Re: Weghorst
Loads of rhetoric, no REAL substance. “Oooh he said some hurty words to Connor”

He starts again for a new Burnley today. He gets a fair crack of the whip, and VK should get our full support in whatever happens next. I hope he gets stuck in because there’s a good player in there. If he doesn’t I’m sure VK and CB would sort this out.

I don’t think he’ll stay, but I fear the crowd reaction if he steps out in a Burnley shirt. You just know some cretins would boo him.bobinho wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:08 amLoads of rhetoric, no REAL substance. “Oooh he said some hurty words to Connor”

I’ve no problem with what he did. He pushed for a move to Turkey so he got a chance to play in a World Cup and then pushed for a move to Man U, because it’s Man U.
Players do it all the time. I don’t hold it against him that his efforts were a bit more public than most.

I don’t want him here as he’s clearly not good enough for the PL, and getting rid might free up funds for a striker

Does cretins constitute people with a different opinion about him than yourself, it doesn't make people cretins it just means people view things differently & express themselves differently.agreenwood wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:20 amI don’t think he’ll stay, but I fear the crowd reaction if he steps out in a Burnley shirt. Re: Weghorst
Going round in circles here
- He's clearly more suited to our current style than the one we played when he was here
- His record is good (though not in the prem admittedly)
- He's our player and we are paying him
- It was a minor spat at most
Basically my opinion hasn't changed, if VK wants him, then that is good enough for me

Whilst cretins is a strong word to use, I agree with the sentiment. Some fans just want to boo and moan rather than judge individuals, groups and the club on their merits at that point in time.

Re: Weghorst
Let’s be honest, us football fans are a fickle bunch. If he comes back here and scores a few goals he’ll be just fine.
Re: Weghorst
While I wouldn't use an insult based on physical disability - not that I'm especially PC, but it's definitely off - I would say that people whose opinion about effectively a new signing is so anti that they would boo him as he comes onto the field, are in the wrong. If they boo a player, then they are booing the manager who picks him and the club he plays for. They aren't supporting the club.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:23 amDoes [deleted] constitute people with a different opinion about him than yourself, it doesn't make people [deleted] it just means people view things differently & express themselves differently.

You can hold whatever opinion you like. You can plaster it all over social media and football forums. I draw the line at booing though. Re: Weghorst
I wouldn't interpret in that way, in some occasions managers are duty bound to select a player by contractual stipulations so it doesn't reflect chain wise, as long as people are civil & not law breaking it shouldn't matter however they choose to express themselves, nobody is asking for your permission or for you to agree with the actions or any sort of other approval.dsr wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 10:43 amWhile I wouldn't use an insult based on physical disability - not that I'm especially PC, but it's definitely off - I would say that people whose opinion about effectively a new signing is so anti that they would boo him as he comes onto the field, are in the wrong. Don't worry, I can well understand that the sort of person who boos the team out on the first day of the season, wouldn't be bothered what other people think of them.Jakubclaret wrote: ↑Mon Jul 03, 2023 11:06 amI wouldn't interpret in that way, in some occasions managers are duty bound to select a player by contractual stipulations so it doesn't reflect chain wise, as long as people are civil & not law breaking it shouldn't matter however they choose to express themselves, nobody is asking for your permission or for you to agree with the actions or any sort of other approval.

By & large we are talking about a unique situation here with what's gone on previously, the reason to boo wouldn't exist with any other player apart from WW.
