The question is should smokers be let out to satisfy their craving for a fag ? Or have to wait until an official break ?

Well. If it's "only five minutes", why are you never five minutes early?

Touched a nerve I see. Do you do all 3? I was only commenting my opinion I didn't mean to offend.Rileybobs wrote:If you think that instant coffee is as good as freshly ground beans and that people eat Nandos to look posh then you have seriously poor judgement.
I never said instant coffee was as good, what I said is people think it's fasionable and the in thing to do. You can make an as good a coffee at home.
What we're people in the UK doing 2/3 years ago before Costa and Prosecco was invented. It's a good job the Venkys brought chicken to the UK, as I don't know what some people would have done without it.
Nandos is a place people "need" to go. They "need" to check in there. They have members cards... They want to be seen and/or known to eat there. It's chicken and chips with some sauce on..
I'm sure they'll be something else out soon that the same people will jump straight on doing because their mate does it or they've seen it on Kim kardashian.

The whole coffee thing is a fecking nightmare in city centres, more a lifestyle thing especially for birds and girly office worker types, stumbling along with enourmous cups of frothy flavoured milk ( I'd say about 3/10 actually buy straight coffee) thinking their lives depended on getting said jug intact to the workplace.

That game was actually at their present stadium. And smokers should make up for their extra breaks.Herts Clarets wrote:I started a new job last month and it is very difficult to be late. Requirement is to work 7 hours per day, between 7am and 7pm. Want a longer lunch break, no problem, just make up the hours. Quite handy if you want to use the gym or other facilities on site. I found out today that the building I work in was built on the site of the former National Hockey Stadium in MK, the scene of Judas fleeing north of the border to see Mammy 7 or so years ago......

No one EVER EVER eats/ate at Nando's to " look posh" ffs it's a fast food sit down gaff and must of been around 15 yrs or more .

I'll give that a go. That's reminding me of Castway and Wilson!Zugunruhe wrote:I mostly WFH.
One way to beat the loneliness is to paint faces on potatoes and pretend they are your colleagues.
I do have a pet budgie that I like to pretend is my personal assistant. He talks a bit so when I give him instructions to set up a new filing system (for example) he'll often reply with an answer that doesn't make much sense. Something like "Who's a good boy?". So I tell him that he's only a good boy if he gets the work done. He rarely does. He tries to eat most of the papers I give him.
This is probably an example of why working entirely from home is unhealthy!

Re: O/T People that arrive at work...
Not at all. I love a good coffee and generally make it at home. But if I'm out and about and fancied a coffee I wouldn't be doing it with the intention of appearing fashionable, as I'm sure most don't. I don't see a problem with people picking up a fresh coffee in the morning before work with some breakfast, it would be a bit weird if I did.MACCA wrote:Touched a nerve I see. Do you do all 3? Prosecco has been around for over 500 years. I imagine it's popular because it's more affordable than champagne. Not a big fan myself but again it's pretty stupid to think that people drink it to look fashionable.
I think I've been to Nandos twice, neither time by my choice. The food was ok both times but at those prices I'd much rather go to a real restaurant where you don't have to order your food at the till. Again, I don't think people go there to be seen - why would they, it's a fast food restaurant like McDonalds. It generally seems like the younger generation who eat there who probably have a less diverse palette and imagination.
You didn't touch a nerve but you've got a very odd view of life if you think that coffee, prosecco and Nandos are for show offs.

Try starting work at 3 in the morning without a coffee hit. Most people think it does because they are told it does. Its ********.
I agree with the 9 am wankers with their starbucks though
I make my own (recommend Taylors of Harrogate Fine Italian) and drink bucket fulls of ths stuff

I didn't say coffee was for show offs.
I'm not on Fakebook, but I doubt many people go for a "cheeky market square coffee" or "check in at greggs"
People will drive 30 mile round trip to eat chicken and chips to post it on unsocial media.
People don't pose with half a larger top in there local pub, yet are more than happy to hold up a wine glass and a bottle of Prosecco that 4 of them are sharing.
I fully understand people getting things to go on their lunch break.
I think you have a different look on life if you genuinly think people go nandos as it's great food, great value and convenient or buy coffee only from Costa as if they drink any other kind their stomach will rot.
You'll be telling me people smoke coke flavoured pretend fags now as there's no quality alternative.

I survive off 4 hours a day most days. Not because of work or anything else but just because i dont really need much sleep. And i dont need a brew to wake me up. I just drink it because i like the taste of it it.Lancasterclaret wrote:Try starting work at 3 in the morning without a coffee hit.

The artistic shot of large glass of wine capturing the decor and mood lighting is as obligatory as paying the bill.
My wife does it when we go out and its something that really grips my s**t.

Though more a tea man myself no one can deny that a good fresh coffee can be an excellent drink, to compare basic Nescafé to fresh would be like comparing a fresh turd to a fillet steak.

Hear girls ask "how much is your cheapest bottle of prosecco" when out then discuss should they/shouldn't they at the bar, and its a bit weird
A social acceptance / showing off.
The old saying "if you have to ask how much is it/that, then you can't afford it"

Re: O/T People that arrive at work...
The good thing about working at home is all the office politics and squabbles are irrelevant. What time you start, how busy you pretend to look, how many coffee / fag breaks you have, how big a production you make about staying 20 minutes late... nobody cares.
You have a certain amount of work to get through for a particular deadline, and that's all you're judged on. It's the future. Unless you've got a proper job, building stuff or saving lives and things like that.

It's those that wander in at 9.30 with their coffee and croissant, complain how busy they are then wander out for a cigarette that hack me off.
They have the gall to comment when you leave at 4.30, having done 2 hrs work before they got in.

Walking around with a starbucks cup is like having the latest handbag for a girl. They'll make it last about 4 hours
People go nando's to check in. Thats it. Why do people even check in anywhere?
People taking photos of beer when on holiday?? What?? Your having such a great time you feel the need to take time out to post??
Its the reason I deleted Facebook. It makes you hate people you actually like.

Definitely one of the lastest in a long line of popular trends.
I believe the most recent is to wear some sort of puffer jacket.

First thing in the morning your body requires protein as it has gone without it overnight. Start your day with an omelette made from 3 egg whites and only one whole egg. Add a couple of fresh chopped mushrooms and enjoy with a nice cup of green tea.
I guarantee you will notice how much more energetic you feel.

Oh look at me I'm cool because I don't like popular things.
Nando's/Starbucks etc are kinda the same as say Levi jeans, chopper bikes, flares, prawn cocktails and supporting Rovers. All things in the past which were once fashionable and popular, fads, but aren't anymore.
