Mine was a Mark II Ford Cortina, NTE258G, passed down from my Dad in 1973 when he bought a new one.

Green mini 1966, 9269 TD, a rust bucket sold for £75 in 1969 with 72,O00 miles on the clock. Had more fuel pumps and tyres than the rest of my cars put together.

Sky blue Triumph Herald. 1965, DFY 218C. Bought for £125 in September 1973, sold for £25 at Gas Street Car Auction in Bolton in January 1975. No 3rd gear, no heater and had to start the engine under the bonnet when we decided to go our separate ways.

Old T reg VW Camper Van. Complete shell and left hand drive.

It caught fire near Gloucester - I remember when my mate in the passenger seat said he smelled burning, I remarked something along the lines of ' at least you know it's not from the van, the engine is in the back!'. 2 minutes later we were sat on the hard shoulder watching a camp(er) fire.

L reg Vauxhall Viva registered in 1973. I got it in 1978 for £500, kept it for 2 years and sold it for £270 at auction in Rosegrove. Metallic gold, heater was hopeless, you had to pump a rubber bung on floor to wash the windscreen!! I drive a brand new Merc now, how times change. :?

My mum got me a clapped out triumph of some description which I called Kevin (after Kevin Carr the goalkeeper), but it eventually broke down almost on fire on the M25. I said to the guy that towed me off that instead of my paying him to collect me, he could keep the car if he bought me a ticket to Cardiff (which wasn't a lot in those days with a railcard), and he did.

I replaced it with a Ford Escort Mark II, which was so much better..............

Capri. 2.0 S.
Loved it. Great car. Really fun to drive especially in a bit of snow.
Cost £236 to insure. 3rd party fire and theft in 86.
Would probably have to get a bank loan for insurance alone today.

Dark green 12 year old Skoda Felecia. Had only done 40,000 miles. Paid £400 and someone ran into the back and insurance paid out £850. Got a Mazda MX3 V6 as a replacement which did less than 20 to the gallon.....

A Sahara Shiite Austin Avenger. But it was the black mini that really saw the action. My favourite moment was a commando raid rescuing Barney from travelling home on the train from Burnley Central with Blackburn supporters. Ended up with an Alsatian sat on the passenger seat trying to eat me and my car load of Pringle clad passengers.
