TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
Maybe our Manager needs to look at the bigger picture regarding this sort of game and be honest enough to give any opposition respect, we were drawn into a niggling contest which I am sure was part of the game plan by Lincoln and we paid the price. Several players had chances and to be honest I think Gray is showing the level he is capable of and no more , poor in front of goal, lack of industry and commitment along with a few others. A lot of hard work gone down the tubes over 1 silly decision not to go into this game full bloodied with a full team. Echoes of Stan at Watford for me , a great chance thrown away by forgetting who we are and what we are. Sorry Sean you have made a major blunder Today which may have a roll on effect.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
On a positive note, Dyche won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Accrington, now Lincoln, and one point away from home has put paid to that.
We have moulded a side over 2-3 years to play without the ball, and be effective. In the odd game that we do have the lions share of possession, we have shown just how poor we are as technicians. It says something when our two best ball players today were our centre halves.
I'll be very interested to hear Dyche's interview later. There should be no excuses, and I'll be disappointed in him if there is.
I wonder if the players realise the magnitude of this defeat. This is something that will be replayed in 20/30/40 years time. I hope they acknowledge the embarrassment, like we the fans do.
There'll be a lot of hurt Burnley fans tonight. We have been let down badly. I'm not normally one to say players aren't fit to wear the shirt, but there a certain culprits today who need to take a long hard look at themselves. If they don't play for Burnley again, I won't be disappointed.
Credit to Lincoln.

Awful, awful performance and we got exactly what we deserved - an embarrassing defeat. Well done Lincoln.
I most certainly wasn't making excuses but merely pointing out that KRBFC was exaggerating with his comment that we had a near full strength team starting

Yes todays result will take the gloss off, course it will.Bigger teams have been knocked out in the past. And they'll be knocked out in the future. Thats the "magic of the Cup" But, if I had the choice of a cup win and relegation, its being in the Premeir League for the start of the 2017/18 season every time.
It'd be just like Burnley to go and win the f""kin thing next season!
Lets take some advice from Stan Ternent, and take this one on the chin.
Survival in the Premier League overshadows everything.
Bring on Hull.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
I buy into what he does defensively. But we have to improve and the most obvious weakness we have is the final ball. You could spend a fortune and buy a far better striker than Gray, but it wouldn't improve the team because that service would remain shocking.CombatClaret wrote:To defend Boyd he does what is needed of him and is a vital part of our current league match system, picked out for praise v Chelsea on MOTD.
What we cannot expect though is for him to replace the creativity of JBG, Defour or Brady such as he was asked to do today with our line up.
It's not as if it's a knee jerk reaction, he and Arfield have been far too wasteful for a season and a half now.
With better ball retention we probably wouldn't be thriving on only 20-30% possession every game. In which case we wouldn't be as reliant on their defensive role.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
Use of subs and stupid hoof ball tactics lost us this game. Why was Dan Ageyi not played wide in second half.We lacked width and guile.Darikwa choose to pass back instead of beating his man on numerous occasions and why our players didn't support each other with pass and move game is a mystery.Bring on Hull and let's get our pride back .Today was a game to forget
Thank goodness I watched it in Thailand.I would have hate to have heard our fans at the end

This thread is an embarrassment. We were awful, they were decent, we lost. Should that mean we forget that we've got it as good as we've ever had it as Burnley fans?
Booing at the end was, quite frankly, shameful. These lads have sweat blood for the club. They shouldn't be pilloried for one bad day at the office.

Where we went wrong was playing that game they wanted. Long balls forward was what they wanted and what we gave them. We needed to get the ball on the deck and keep it there. We didn't and paid the price.

Gutted.
However, we're in the Premier League and doing alright. Today is a great example of why this competition is great, if we look back 30 years and do a role reversal, we wouldn't trade. Let's give them credit and move on to securing our PREMIER LEAGUE status.

The sooner Defour and Hendrick are back, the better. We simply couldn't string five passes together and every time we bunged it to Vokes or Gray it bounced off them and to a Lincoln player.
It wasn't about us 'not being up for it' or about attitude - it was about the lack of passing ability.
But clearly this game wasn't a priority for Dyche.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
I think the word embarrassment is going to be used a lot this week and rightfully so.
Flanagan for me, is awful. He brings nothing to the side at all and agree that Gray looked like he wanted to be anywhere else today than playing football.
It's a bit much to suggest this results destroys a good season so far. But from now till the rest of the season we will have to put up with the quote
"Yeah but you got knocked out the cup by a non league side"
In response to anything good we do.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
Some times you can defend what you have seen, today was not one of them days.
Shocking performance, some of our so called Premier League players are championship standard at best, they have to be up for it ever game and when not this is what happens.
It's been said many a time on this forum, we lack proper pace out wide and for how good Arfield and Boyd have been since they came in we really need to improve the options out wide.
A result like this could really dent the confidence of the players, and with the run of away games we now have, the next games performance/result could define our season.
Shocking today, truly shocking.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
I saw the game on TV. I wouldn't say Lincoln deserved it or were the better side. It looked like a game between two evenly matched teams. That of course is a disappointing statement to make for us.
I don't think it's right to read too much into individual or the team performance. It is a good question as to why we appeared equal to Lincoln and I can only put it down to being a cup tie.
After we lost against Wimbledon we won three of our next four games and moved up to second in the table.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
A lot of our players had poor performances both regular starters and those on the fringe. Credit to Lincoln though, they played the game on their terms and then beat us at it. Interestingly, what I am reading from our fans today is very similar to what I've read opposing fans say after we have turned their team over at the turf. We played badly because Lincoln made us play badly and they should get the full credit for their performance.
