I remember a game against Wrexham in mid 80's think we were 2-0 or 2-1 down with about 15 mins to go ended up winning 5-2.

Wasn't it played when the 3 day week was occurring?dermotdermot wrote:I've already mentioned that, post 23. Great game. I remember it well.

A little surprised that the Carling Cup semi final of 2009 hasnt been mentioned yet.
Fair enough, we lost it at the end, but to come back from 4-1 down from the first leg to 4-4 on aggregate, as a lower division side, was fairly remarkable - particularly in a game of that magnitude.

Well true I had had a few pints around Euston on that Sunday lunchtime and afternoon, but the interminable walk along Seven Sisters road from the tube station (and back) I will NEVER forget. I'd willingly put a few quid in any collection Spurs have towards building their own tube stop as part of the redevelopment.claretblue wrote:bet you struggle to recall Tottenham in 2016 DarkCloud!

It doesn't seem all that long ago, but history is already being warped. Beast was sent off, and Spicer replaced him. We won 3-2.bedfords wrote:We were 2 up.
Best come back I have been present at was at Stamford Bridge in the League Cup, in '08.

Never ever understood that rule for that comp Wellernut. If scores are level after 2 legs how can it be that one team is only given 90 minutes to score away goals but the other team gets 120 minutes. One of the most Utterly ridiculous and lob sided rules ever concocted...THEWELLERNUT70 wrote:Burnley 3 v Spuds 0
Only to have our moment of glory snatched away with an idiotic and plain stupid rule where away goals count after extra time

But the other team is given 120 minutes of home advantage to balance that out.RocketLawnChair wrote:Never ever understood that rule for that comp Wellernut. I can't see many home teams who are through on away goals after 90 minutes of the second leg opting to play an extra 30 minutes just because they are on their own patch.djemba-djemba wrote:But the other team is given 120 minutes of home advantage to balance that out.
I remain unconvinced, it's a stupid lob sided rule.

I think the theory is that ideally it should be settled:RocketLawnChair wrote:I can't see many home teams who are through on away goals after 90 minutes of the second leg opting to play an extra 30 minutes just because they are on their own patch.

1st by an extra half hour of football; if that fails then
2nd by away goals; and if that fails then
Finally, worst case scenario - penalties.
I think the decision makers would say they were vindicated as the Burnley Spurs semi final was ultimately settled by the aggregate score rather than either of the next 2, less desirable, 'tie-break' options.
I don't necessarily agree with it as it maybe over-complicates things but I think that's the theory behind it.

Quite correct Joey. I was one of the few Clarets in attendance that lovely summers evening in the smoke. We were awful 1st half and unplayable 2nd.joey13 wrote:Weren't we 3 down at Chelsea at half time and pulled it back to 3-3 , in the seventies
Wonderful memories
