This is a really tough selection. The back 5 is a given, so what will Stoke have in their midfield and defence? Probably some bruisers and skill mixed in equal measures with an ability to fall over and waste time at every opportunity.
Gray has to start and give us some pace to worry them. Oh for heavens sake Brady cost us a fortune, play him in the position he knows best or put him in the end of season sale! Defour is a match for any of the skilled Stoke players he must start and aim to play 90 minutes. Against their bruisers we need Barnes to ruffle feathers as it isn't Big Sams style. So that is it sorted..............

No idea who............No idea who..........Defour..............Brady

I'm not one to really slag off any of our players, any 11 will do as long as Arfield isn't one of them, last. Few games he simply isn't up to it

Seems to be a big disagreement on Arfield. Many saying not up to it, others saying our best player last 2 games

for my two cents worth, Stoke are still a big team and will look for set pieces to score, for us Vokes I believe is the best player to have in defense to stop/limit there advantage, Hendricks is a possibility also for this from midfield but playing poorly so toss up, do we want to stop them or go for the win.
Think Boyd and Arfield need to give way for Defour & Westwood, Brady poor but also maybe start and also Hendricks on the bench, can always change later. Vokes replacing Barnes. However I am positive SD will never go with this team, but hopefully he has learnt something from the last two games not to do the same.

Criticism of Arfield just isn't based on reality. That isn't my view, I note the BBC gave him man of the match at Sunderland whilst much of this messageboard was giving him 3 or 4 out of 10. Spurs supporting friend of mine on Saturday commented on what a good job Arfield did on Trippier whilst also being our most creative player. Unfortunately he's become a lightening rod for many of those who are impatient with our place in the pecking order.
I don't disagree, incidentally, with the comment that Boyd and Arfield together leave us a little one dimensional in the final third, and that Brady - with his crossing ability apart from anything else - would give us a different dimension. But on current form I'd surprised anyone would go for Boyd (notably, he's the one who has been subbed in all of our recent games when we've been looking for a bit more creativity), and in any event there are an awful lot of comments which appear to completely underestimate what a huge job Arfield and Boyd do for us. There's a reason Brady has seemingly found the transition tough when he's started games.

Boyd Westwood Defour Hendrick Brady
Gray
Barnes, Barton and Arfield out from the weekend and a change of focus. We need to try and boss the ball in midfield and get Brady / Defour on the ball.

I've said time and time again, don't understand why sd doesn't try boyd in behind gray and give him a licence, that's how he made a name for himself at p'boro, and obviously start the one that's capable of threading the ball through " defour "

Same team but Brady for Arfield - not a slight on Arfield but something has to give in terms of quality into the box, and Brady needs to be on the left, not least because he can link up with his Irish colleagues. Course I'd like to see Defour but I'd be shocked to see him start.

I'd be very surprised if it's not the same starting eleven. Dyche said he was happy with the team selection v Spurs, I could see the idea with the starting eleven it was the substitutions that were abysmal.

This is interesting. And I have to say I do like the look of your team. And I completely agree that we need to get our best players playing in their correct positions. But just before the Sunderland game you said Barnes would be first name on your team sheet. We have since drawn away, and lost to 2nd in the league. And now Barnes doesn't get in your starting line up! What happened?

I've done a quick calculation. The overwhelming choice on here is to stick with 442
If we picked the team based on popular vote:
........................................HEATON
.....LOWTON...............KEANE...............MEE..........WARD
Boyd/Hendrick......Hendrick/Barton......DEFOUR........BRADY
................................Barnes.............GRAY
Those in upper case were overwhelming choices
Those in lower case is dependent upon formation choice etc
