Interesting one with Warburton admitting that they will have to listen to offers that benefit the club

Skysports reporting we've made £8 million bid:

Edit - as DC Wat pointed out ages ago

So if we sign him, do you think it's to replace Gray (to be sold), or to increase competition for a starting place?

He'd be a class signing. I wrote the following in a post a few months ago:

He's only 25 but a player I'd be interested in is Britt Assombalonga (24 years old). He'd be a risk given his injury record but you look at the minutes he's played in comparison and his stats look pretty good, particularly when you consider he's at Forest who were (as we all remember) flirting with relegation on the last day of the season. If the club could be confident regarding his fitness, I think he'd be worth looking at.

Britt Assombalonga: 14 goals scored, 1 assist (57% shots on target)
130 minutes per goal / 1818 minutes played

I believe he had one of the best records in the Championship last season in terms of the number of goals scored for games and minutes played.

So is he 24 or 25? Could be a dealbreaker

I fear foe 8million we might get gazumped.
A lot of money but in todays market it ain't mind blowing.

Probably be outbid by Arry. I just hope the lad wants to play in the premiership

Even if Andre Gray stays we still need another striker.
Could see Assombalonga vying with Sam Vokes to play alongside Andre Gray
So healthy competition for a place in the starting 11

Probably 4 to 6 million short of what Forest will want.

He signed a 5 year contract last summer.

I genuinely can't see us being successful with a "reported" bid of 8 million for a guy on a 5 year contract. I've no idea if he's worth more than that in today's market ?

If the bid is correct, what do you want us to do? Bid £18 million?

I would assume if it is correct then it is an opening bid, maybe like the £15 million (including add ons) that Everton first offered for Keane.

£8m opening bid would be a reasonable starting position but would take 8 figures I reckon to get a deal done.

Bid rejected. Their fans on Twitter laughing at the £8 million bid.

Forest don't wanna sell but "every player has their price".

It's amazing that whenever we try to have dealings with Forest, every bid we make for any player immediately goes public. I know they have got new owners but it seems the way they do business hasn't changed.

We would need to double that to sign him, in this market.

I suspect we know that too but want to unsettle the player and get him putting pressure on at his end.

All part of the process.

And maybe his agent has thrown Boro's name into the ring in the hope of creating a bidding war thus upping the players signing on % and his agents cut as well.

I would feel uneasy getting into a bidding war for an injury prone player personally. No doubting he has quality but it's a risk for us (anyone) paying big money for him. Especially a risk if he was to replace Gray should he leave...

Is he injury prone? I thought he'd just had one bad injury. Like lots of players. Would you regard Marney as injury prone?

He reminds me of Michael Antonio at West Ham. Employed as a wing back by Bilic. Never thought I'd see Antonio as a Premier League player but it works. Not suggesting we play Ass.... him as a wing back mind.

Everton offered 15 million originally, where that come from ?

After what happened last time with Lansbury and Stephens, I thought it would be better to go in with a tempting bid of say 12 million take it or leave it , if they say no move on to someone else and not waste time and ending up with players not worth what we pay.

I feel that should we sign Assombalonga it would be a replacement for Gray who will be off given its the last year of his contract and is refusing to sign a new deal. If so, we would definitely be worse off considering Gray has experienced the Premier League and has proven he can score goals, Assombolonga spends more time on the treatment table.

Also i wouldnt give Forest the time of day after the Lansbury debacle.

As someone mentioned above, we need to be looking at a player to come deep and link play i.e. Danny Ings. The way we play doesnt suit Gray nor would it suit Britt.

Yep both him and Gray along with Barnes and Vokes would be a decent strike force to have squad wise.

If it's true what some on here say that he has only recently signed a 5year contract.
Forest must have been confident that he would make a full recovery from his injuries
