Bar Candy in Tokyo. Racist, wife-beating owner - but an affable chap all the same - with good beers, cocktails and house classics playing all night.
Re: What is your favourite bar?
The Staff is a great pub and I spent a lot of time in the three pigs when I played cricket for new ridings in Halifax. They were our sponsor so it was a good excuse to go every week ha ha!Lord Beamish wrote:Honourable mentions for my local, The Staff of Life in Todmorden, and The Three Pigeons in Halifax.
I was up in Carlisle the other week and there was a great ale pub up there called The Fat Gadgy. Defo worth a look. The Cambridge Blue in Cambridge (surprise surprise) is another great pub.
Closer to Burnley I'd say The Kettledrum and The Crooked Billet are hard to beat.

The Crown Posada, Newcastle - a real bar under the Tyne bridge, well worth a visit on 31st January.
Agreed Staff of Life, Tod is excellent too.

I enjoyed the Corn Dolly in Bratfud, good range of real ales and friendly chap behind the bar. Was also a big fan of the Fox and Newt opposite Park Lane college in Leeds, had a nice micro brewery with it.

Another shout for Boyce's Barrel in Colne..the three real ale bars at the top of Newmarket Street are all great and a real bonus for the town. The Bankers Draft in Barrowford is also very decent and this kind of small mini-pub selling great beer is a top feature of recent life. My partner lives in Tring in Herts and a brilliant little place called The Craftyard has just opened there too.

Thanks again for this recommendation, we went last night for our Ruby Anniversary and it was the icing on the cake on what had been a brilliant day.
Rustic food, local pricing, breathtaking views and a sunset beyond words.

Costa's on the tiny Greek island of Chalki; you just sit there with a drink and watch the traditional fishing boats tying up in front of you. Total relaxation. (We are there at the moment
). Also, though it is a pub, The Falcon in Littondale deserves a mention. Timothy Taylor's poured from a jug.

Re: What is your favourite bar?
I used to frequent The Conservatory in Leeds city centre after work. Guy parks his Lotus Esprit right be the entrance door so everyone has to squeeze past it to get in. Half hour later, bloke walks in and asks "Anyone got a Lotus Esprit?"
The kn@b at the bar, picks up his keys and waves them for all to see.
"Sorry mate, my truck has just crushed it!" ....and the place erupts into laughter.
