Keane won't be, there are no young centre backs we are interested in just solid middle-aged signings, and I'm not sure there is another Boyd out there prepared to sacrifice themselves for the side.

I think you'll find Boyd is still very much alive.

And I'll guarantee we'll get a Keane replacement, probably not at the same level but certainly at least on a par with Tarkowski. What do you mean by middle aged anyway, around 35-45?

Yes they should be at their peak in terms of footballing nous and application but of course at that point they cost.
We've come to see our club as a buying club but we really need to be a scouting club, buying canny, seeking out young talent who can give us that vital energy pace and creativity which youth does.

Not necessarily for energy creativity or indeed surprise value, just think of some of Burnleys greats. Wingers often peak early, strikers at their most potent when youthful, although from a strength point of view 28 might be peak there are many other characteristics that youth and sometimes age brings.

Tracing this thread back, you're complaining that we might sign a hypothetical 28 year old centre back, and you think 28 is too old because wingers and forwards are better when they're younger. Wouldn't it be more productive to worry about the sky falling on your head?

That is always a concern dsr.
What I am saying is that we have in Mee Keane and Tarka signed young relatively Untested players who have gone on in the first two cases to make good careers and in Tarkas case a promising start.
That is the template I believe we should adopt as ours and any player we bring In should be an up and coming one with something to prove.
Others of course disagree but I see the route we appear to be taking as short-termism with large financial consequences, I prefer the financially more prudent if slightly more adventurous route

Surely you need a bit of both ABC. For example if Taylor is as successful as Keane that's his own Cork and Walters and whoever else we may sign fees covered. Our template is we are a Football Club not a Youth Academy and it would be completely stupid of us to pigeon hole ourselves to one particular part of the transfer market.
