Boden gets told less and less by the club every season. I don't even know why Fans take his word as gospel.

Just reporting what he says is not taking it as gospel, and he knows a hell of a lot more than some of the wantabee ITKs that plague this forum and twitter.

No chance of signing Dawson. Pulis is more bereft of defenders than we are.

Re: Ranocchia
We canot rely on signing Dawson, that always sounded pie in the sky and the sort of crap we were doing 2 years ago when we put all our eggs in one basket. Too big a risk.
Re: Ranocchia
Ranocchia would have been decent but not too bothered if there's nothing in it, there's probably better out there.
Also really hope we're not relying on West Brom letting Dawson out, because we'll leave ourselves short if that's the case.

Re: Ranocchia
Dawson would be a great addition but it looks very unlikely now given their lack of options at the back - especially if City bag Evans. I'd be amazed however if we were banking on those dicks again after being stung twice.

Flight tracker shows he is on his way back to Italy without a contract

Re: Ranocchia
I posted this on the 22nd May and stand by it...
"Andrea Ranocchia is apparently surplus to requirements at Inter and has just had half a season in the PL so he wouldn't be an unknown quantity. He's got 20+ Italy caps and is 29 years old. For a CB that's a good age. Rumoured fee of around £9m. He'd be on my radar big time. Good replacement for Keane with money spare to strengthen elsewhere."
Not convinced he'd knock Tarky out of the team but he's about as good as we'll get as third choice. 20 odd caps at centre half for Italy shouldn't be sniffed at!

No interest in a permanent transfer from Hull after his previous loan spell. Linked with everyone recently.
That bastion of journalistic accuracy "The Sun" pegged his transfer fee at £4.5 million last month.

If he is coming I hope it's only on a six month loan and the Sun where smoking happy flowers when they plucked his salary expectations out of the air.

Re: Ranocchia
A unanimous opinion of him on the Inter Forum. Normally you get for and against on football forum player evaluations, but everyone is in complete agreement about him. I get the strong feeling that they won't be sad if he leaves the club and even though I feel a little guilty about it some of their comments made me laugh - like the Ebay Auction for him.

Re: Ranocchia
That is my thinking, but it's a tad annoying to see the Stoke fans wetting themselves and drooling over the possibility that they are going to pick up the guy that I've been harping on about for the past month
Especially when they have already picked up one quality defender in the sub £10mil range during this window already - in the form of Bruno Martins Indi.

Re: Ranocchia
Ranocchia in, Mee to West Brom (God forbid!) and Dawson in as his replacement. Joking aside, what would Mee`s value be? I`m actually surprised Man City don`t see him as the home-grown solution to their `problem`. Mee would be the last Burnley player I would sell but if we did, I wouldn`t sell him for anything less than 20 million.

That must be the first time Ranocchia has ever been compared to a rusty old caravan! As with Keane I'm sure Mee will help him flourish and up his game.

It's funny isn't it. You would have thought that common sense would have prevailed by now. The golden rule of transfers is ignore other fans when departing players are concerned.Lancasterclaret wrote:Nope, not having that.

Lowton, Bardsley, Arfield, Westwood, Cork, Jones, Kightly etc etc... have we not learnt our lesson yet?! These guys were all given a level of stick from their previous supporters. It means nothing. Even Shawcross got some grief when he was linked. Some football fans are very fickle and they aren't able to comprehend a player leaving their club so they stick the knife in.
Ranocchia would be a solid signing. Get him in our group, with our togetherness and Dyche's framework and I'm confident he'd do very well.

Re: Ranocchia
It's always the same though. Some fans will immediately start to criticise a player the minute they know he could be on his way. You've used some good examples there, particularly Villa pair Lowton and Westwood and more recently Jack Cork on the Swansea message board. All the ones you have mentioned came to Burnley and, apart from those more recently signed, did a really good job for us.jlup1980 wrote:It's funny isn't it. Re: Ranocchia
Ordinarily I would agree with you, our club has a talent for improving players and bringing out the very best in them. This case appears to be a little different. If you check out the thread it isn't just about his recent departure it provides an ongoing account of 360 pages that provide a running commentary of his total time with the club.
If you Google the reports of his match performances, for club and country, they paint an identical picture. A talented technical player, reasonably good in the air, slow, lacks composure, problems with his short passing and prone to making costly errors when under pressure - like his most recent one that earned Hull their relegation. The consensus is that he is inconsistent and can't be depended on over the longer term.
Ignoring the opinion of a group of fans is understandable, but disregarding a body of evidence that stretches back seven years, with collaborating evidence from a wide variety of different sources, is a different matter entirely.

Re: Ranocchia
Clearly he's been highly regarded in the past. You don't play for Italy as a centre half if you're a mug. That said, his appearances were a few years back now.
I'm not sure his playing for Inter is an indication of much. His spell there coincided with one of their worst periods in recent history.
His career has clearly been in decline for some time. Dyche may help him rekindle the promise he obviously had, but he's not the replacement for Keane we were hoping for. Also, if he is being brought in the play second fiddle to Tarkowski & Mee, I'm not sure how that helps him recapture his form.

Re: Ranocchia
I can't claim to know very much about Ranocchia's career, but as I understand it he did very well for Hull - one mistake at Palace aside -and was widely regarded as the best signing they made during the course of last season.
And even just going off his CV, it would perhaps be an indication of how far we've come that we're a bit dubious about whether a defender who has played 130 times for Inter Milan over about 4 seasons, and been appointed captain of them once, and who has 21 senior caps for Italy. His career hasn't kicked on, but that's pretty decent pedigree.

Re: Ranocchia
Probably worth noting that in terms of him having a few "lost years" on his CV, that's probably not a completely dissimilar story to Defour last summer. That signing has to date had mixed results, although his class is undoubted, but I don't recall the same level of doubt being expressed last summer. Indeed, as I remember there was almost universal excitement.
