The point about black cab drivers is that they are licensed. If you have a complaint against them you have an authority you can complain to.

Black cab drivers have spent a year or longer learning 'The Knowledge'.

I'm not saying they are perfect and perhaps they are outdated but the drivers have invested time and money to become one.

Uber drivers, in theory, are also licensed.

The knowledge is useful if you don't know where you're going, but the vast majority of people have an address or postcode.

Black cab drivers are still refusing to have their photos on their hackney carriage licences so you don't actually know if the person in the licence is your driver.

Obviously people would take a risk than pay the black cab fees

Take what risk?

So long as it's not Monte's cousin Clive, his driving is shockingly bad.

I completely rely on Uber in Leeds. They are brilliant from a customer perspective, no complaints at all.

Happily used Uber numerous times. On the other hand, I cannot abide the TFL mafia, whether they be tube drivers or the black cab rip off merchants.

Is no one concerned at tech firms seeking to place themselves "above and beyond" the law in the pursuit of their own personal profits?

In Uber's case, according to reports, they have not reported a passenger's report of an alleged sexual assault - the driver is alleged to have then assaulted another person.

It's one thing for firms to introduce "disruptive" technology. It's totally wrong for those firms to say that it's "not my problem" when crime is facilitated by their "disruptive" technology.

If that's true... which i suspect it isn't - Why hasn't the passenger reported it to the police?

Uber is a lifesaver when you get ****** and miss your last train back to hitchin, £190 with 4 stops (st Albans, Welwyn & 2 in Hitchin) vs black cab which would be well over £500 if I ever got one of the grumpy guys to actually take me!
