Birmingham have just spent about £15m- £20m on players and are about 5 points off mid table. Let's not pretend they are paupers cut adrift who need a saviour.Jamesy wrote:In Birminghams current predicament, Steve Cotterill is the ideal man to keep them in the Championship, and I am sure he will succeed in doing this.
As for those who are rubbishing his time at Burnley, you need to give your heads a wobble. He was the right man at the right time for us and ensured a period of stability at Burnley FC. I wish him all the best in his new job at Birmingham City.

Can see both sides now. As a supporter who now only watches the odd game on TV, I can appreciate the results and the progress of the club as phenomenal. I'm not sure that I'd appreciate the football if I was watching it every week.
That said, Dyche went unbeaten in 23 in the championship, Cotterill went almost the same length of time without winning. Plus Dyche often plays 2 up front, a genuine 2 up front as well. Under Cotterill away, it was often tough to see who the 1 up front was.

Utter tosh Top Claret. When he was with Burnley he did absolutely loads with the community (and I mean loads). You might not have known that so fair enough, but you are just seem to be making stuff up for no reason as far as I can see.

I can assure you I have never made anything up about Cotterell. I have been in his company on numerous occasions. I was also at a question and answer session one night and he tried to belittle a member of the audience who just asked him a straight question.Vegas Claret wrote:"He comes over as being arrogant and nobody likes an arrogant person. One point and no goals in Cotterill’s last 4 games.

You have to give him some credit for how quickly he has settled in and got them playing his dire brand of non football
I notice he'd benched Juke since coming in so you can tell how desperate things are getting for a goal when the answer is starting the non scoring striker

When I was younger I used to go to mates in Brockhall, he was a Burnley fan too. Cotterill lived a couple of doors down and we once saw him on the street, I was only about 14. We were quite excited and chanted Steve Cotterills claret and blue army at him and asked him a few questions. I'm not sure now exactly how the conversation went but we both came away thinking he was fairly arrogant and really quite blunt, he didn't really have the time of day for us. I still thought he was a good manager for us though.

No surprise that you got that impression. He was "hot & cold" at best. I know from an insider he could be all sweetness and light one week, then blunt to the point of ignorance a week later.Conroy92 wrote:When I was younger I used to go to mates in Brockhall, he was a Burnley fan too. Won't last the season. He is a awful appointment for the blues. Cotterells management career must be at an end, in the very near future. Cotterell is a liability who has had little success where ever he has managed, his role in football should be taking the kids.
It would not have taken him long to lose the dressing room, nobody likes an arrogant git.

MIND define Narcissistic Personality Disorder as:
Narcissistic personality disorder
You may:
- believe that there are special reasons that make you different, better or more deserving than others
have fragile self-esteem, so that you rely on others to recognise your worth and your needs
feel upset if others ignore you and don’t give you what you feel you deserve
resent other people’s successes
put your own needs above other people’s, and demand they do too
be seen as selfish and ‘above yourself’
take advantage of other people.
Sounds like SC to me!
Re: ARTICLE: Cotterill follows Coyle back in work
It’s not a matter about gloating, it’s the fact people still defend someone who went 19 games without a win , he’s proving once again he’s a poor manager , I bet Brum don’t give him 19 games , he’ll still be defended on here though.

Re: ARTICLE: Cotterill follows Coyle back in work
When he took the reins at Turf Moor we were in a right old mess. It is unfair to castigate him for not performing a miracle. He did OK. There was one very bad spell and a number of promising interludes. The football was generally dire but you cannot deny that he laid the foundations of the squad that got us promoted under Coyle. Can’t say I liked him but he kept us in the Championship when the club had no money to speak of.

No but I consider building a squad from scratch during our poorest (financial) situation (vs the competition) sufficient enough to stop up comfortably before being the basis of our first promotion to the premier league an excellent job.joey13 wrote:So you class going 19 games without a win as doing a good job ?
At least 8 of the promotion squad were cotterill signings (thats more players than he inherited from a side that was definitely on the slide). He brought back Blake. Master stroke signings of Alexander and Ade (first time at least), Carlisle, Caldwell and Duff.
Developed McCann and Jay giving them both their chance (along with Lafferty)
So on balance he did a good job.
Re: ARTICLE: Cotterill follows Coyle back in work
He was incredible arrogant and a bit mental.
I used to do a fans panel in the LET and one week he demanded my number after I wrote something.
Darren Bentley worked for the LET at the time and asked if it was ok to pass it on. I confirmed it was ok and I then had Cotterill calling me having a pop.
He was ranting how he was going to be England manager and I told him he might need to deliver a thicker skin if he got this upset about something that a fat whaller like me wrote in a local paper.
He called me 3 or 4 other times over innocuous things. Oddball.

We were nowhere near the bottom of the table financially if you looked at accounts from around that time.
He did an average job giving a bit of stability but we managed to sign a fair few players such as Hyde or Thomas by paying higher wages than other clubs could afford.

I’m with cricketfieldclarets on this one, he did a good job for us. Everything is relative.
Although we reminisce about the Stan era, the final couple years were dreadful. Cotterill was an important stepping stone between where we were and where we are now.
Coyle was the man who got the best out the squad but it was Cotterill who built it.
Cotterill is a good crisis manager, I think.

Re: ARTICLE: Cotterill follows Coyle back in work
The fact that Coyle got Cotterill's team promoted with little more than a bit of encouragement shows how bad a manager Cotterill is.
Cotterill had those players turning in 0-0s and 0-1s, with little in the way of excitement, finishing lower half of the table.
Coyle got that team promoted to the Premier League, and he had those players beating Arsenal, Spurs, Man Utd, Everton, knocking out Chelsea......
