Still learning
He wrote and took lead vocal on "If you leave me now", when the band decided to go down that route he left.
Another solo offering.

As you say.....doesn't matter who 'sang it' was more about the dance moves. Back in the 90's. That was popular believe it or not

A trio with piano, double bass and drums. Wouldn't ordinarily have sought this out but if you like 'musicianship' then they have some awesome skills.
Would love to know if this floats anyone else's musical boat
Have you listened to GoGo Penguin?

One thing I have never understood is music snobbery. It really really annoys me.
If it sounds good to someone, it bloody sounds good. End of. Don't belittle their taste in whoever it is.
I can listen to literally anything, it depends on my mood.
Current favourites are Picture This, a bit of Pink and also U2 and some soft classical music.
No guilt in any of it.

Nick the bass player is a good friend from college and uni and we’ve played together in a few bands. He is originally from Keighley but lives in Manchester now. He’s a dirty Leeds fan but has been on the Turf a couple of times with me to watch the Clarets. I like GoGo Penguin’s sound and they are really good straight ahead jazz musicians but I like the dancey slant they have put in their music. The tune “One Percent” has an insane climax that sounds like the CD is skipping.

Gilbert O'Sullivan for me.
Remembered for his worst songs like Clair, Ooh Wack a do, and Get down but wrote classics like Nothing Rhymed and Alone again naturally.

Flying Pickets, Only You.
As for guilty pleasures, I don't have any. I reckon the top artists of the seventies are the "Big Three W's", the Wombles, the Wurzels, and Roger Whittaker. And I don't feel guilty.

I think we've had a fair few "Are covers ever better than originals?" threads over the years. I would always cite "I Fought the Law" and "Nothing compares 2 U" as superior covers - but it's all subjective, of course.
And as for (sort of ) guilty pleasures - how about "Barbie Girl" and "Cheeky Song"

Fair point, but they're not quite in the Big Three. W was a great letter for 1970's music, though.

The Electric Light Orchestra!
I was 14 in 1977 and got into all the punk and new wave stuff - at the time I kept quiet about liking ELO but the first vinyl album I ever bought was "Face The Music' in 1975 and the first cassette album was 'A New World Record' in 1976.
Still have the vinyl.
