Even in rugby, they stop play as soon as there is any real chance that the play will be in the area of the injured man. In football, where the ball moves a lot faster and in much more random directions, you couldn't let play go on for long before there's a danger the ball will be in the wrong place.

But in the rugby the danger is a ruck or maul on top of an injured player - that could be dangerous. In football the danger is the ball getting kicked at a player who has just been shot by a sniper and is rolling around on the ground like they’re actually injured.

Stoke get rewarded for dirty tactics. What about rules about attempting to start a fight and deliberately winding up opposition?

Every team has a Joe Allen character, ours is Barnes. Stoke happen to have about 10 other players up to the same games.

Oh wait, Mark Hughes. It all makes sense now.
