1973 v West Ham we scored after 1 miniute, got beat 3-5 ! Bob Lord stand still being built. Or the Martin Dobson stand some refer to (still to this day).
Had some up's and down's watching Burnley over the years. Would i change it? not at all. Part of being a football supporter.
Annoys me listening to moaning from some Burnley fans about the team etc, where were they in the dark days and the dross of the 4th division.
Listening also to the so called pundits referring to us as little Burnley, we are not a big club as we know. But our history and achievements are remarkable.I think they forget what we have won in the past the teams we produced .
Always proud to call myself a Claret..

houseboy wrote:Just to clarify (cos you got me thinking) Paul Wain's post says he was in the cricket field end in 1967 before they even closed it to build the stand and went to several more games before they closed it to build the new stand. Wikipedia is great but is populated by enthusiasts not experts. It does need editing. I recall the stand was built but had no seats. Incidentally does anyone actually know when it opened? I can't remember.
Sorry, maybe the edit wasn't clear; I thought the stand was opened in the mid-60's; wiki said otherwise (I think it said it was built in 1969 but didn't actually say when it was opened).

Can you remember though that if Brian Flynn hadn't missed a sitter late on we would have won 5-4. That is one of the most memorable games for me. The following week we came back from 0-3 against Orient. Strange how two very memorable games were against Orient eh?
The 4-4 that you speak was against Charlton. The Norwich 4-4 had them equalizing late on.
Don't think I've seen a 4-4 since, involving the Clarets. The only 4-4 I can recall watching was this one, what a game!

If it helps I went in 2nd or 3rd game of its first season. A 0-0 draw with Dirty Leeds and Peter Mellor was in the nets. I think it was his first season in first team.

Thanks for putting me right of course it was, for some reason I didn't recall it being Norwich but I couldn't recall another 4-4. 14 goals in two home games eh? Happy times (even though we only got 2 points from two games).

Hey the mists of time eh? All I know is that it was still under construction when I went to that first game v Derby (Jan '69) but have no recollection of it actually opening. I do know is that it is long overdue for a re-build eh?

Burnley 1-1 Sunderland
Eyres 36' (pen)
Don't remember it, but that was my first game a Turf Moor.
I do remember the play off final vs Stockport though weirdly (Aged 4).

10th aug 2002. Brighton beat us 3-1 and im sure bobby zamora scored for them. A scrap broke out between the players and there was a bit of crowd trouble after the game. Some bald bloke got mowed by a police horse and there was a nasty police dog growling at me and my little bro who was 7 at the time. We both **** ourselves. Obviously my mum was thrilled to bits when we got home and told her the story needless to say we didnt visit turf moor for a while after that

houseboy wrote:Was that at Burnley or Blackpool? The reason I ask is that was in the old 1st Division and that season I went to Bloomfield (along with about 10 thousand other Clarets) and got thrown out by a copper for sitting on a mates shoulders. I sneaked back in for the game (I was ejected before the kick off) and got through the game unscathed. But I seem to think it was Boxing Day but I'm not sure. I could be wrong.
Apologies for the tardy response houseboy. My 1st game was at The Turf UTC!

First game I went to the turf - Burnley v Man Utd 14 Sep 1968
Didn’t get in, gates shut before 2pm aged 6 cried apparently
First game I saw - Burnley v Sheffield W 18 Oct 1969 won 4-2
Think we were losing 2-0?
All I remember is
Doug Collins scored from a corner
Tommy Craig got sent off for them
Sheffield had a bald goalkeeper Peter Springett
I was hooked -48 years and counting UTC!

First Burnley game for me was vs Blackburn at Ewood Park in Feb 1962. Living in Haslingden I can distinctly remember the massive queues for the line of Corporation buzzes which took us over the moors down into Blackburn. Even though we set off early again the queues to get into the ground were massive. Inside the ground we stood at the top of the Blackburn End which was open terrace in those days. To be able to see the game I was sat on my dads shoulders for the entire game. Pointer scored and became my absolute idol afterwards. However we lost 1 = 2 and they did the double on us that season as well. Nevertheless that was it for me a Claret forevermore.
Btw in those days Rovers and Burnley fans intermingled. No segregation and no bother, happy days.

My father is a Liverpool fan (born there), but took me to see Burnley beat Man City 2-1 in autumn 1974. We stood in the Bee Hole End, so I had a great view of Fletcher's headed goal. We had moved to Mansfield in '72, so my next game was when we beat QPR the following season. The game was nil-nil and the clock was close to ninety minutes, so he ushered me out of the ground; 'to beat the crowds' - and I remember him insisting it would end a draw. Sure enough as we walked past the club shop Burnley scored to win the game.

March 1961 aged 6. 4 4 v Chelsea in the game where we were fined for playing 10 reserves in a week leading up to a European Cup quarter final. Gordon "Bomber Harris was the only first team regular to play that day.
