Rik Mayall RIP
Saw him in Colne Municipal Hall back in the day and he had the audience ******* themselves laughing before he even came on stage by talking into the mic, pretending he thought it wasn't switched on.
Did he?AlargeClaret wrote:Great to see Doddy still going I remember when his dads dog died way back

Different types of stand up but all funny in their own way.
The big names only play the arena, The Grand or The City Varieties. Is the Comedy Store still open?FactualFrank wrote:LoveCurryPies I didn't know you were Leeds based. Where would you recommend for a good comedy gig?
The thing is, I find some comedians funnier on panel shows than they are stand up - and some are best at stand up than they are on programmes.TVC15 wrote:Alan Partridge is one of my favourite programmes of all time. The 2 Paul Calf programmes that were made were also great.
I wouldn't really count him as a stand up comedian though I suppose.
Dara O Brian and Dave Spikey were also good. I went to see Justin Moorhouse at Mechanics last year and he was funny - well worth seeing if he comes back as tickets were good value.
Not seen Jason Manford live but think he would be decent. He's touring next year.
Couple of poor ones I have been to are Harry Hill and Stephen Amos - Amos was unfunny and a massive chip on his shoulder and it was made worse as he tore into Burnley as a place (I saw him in Salford)
Jason Manford is pretty good. Agree that Dave Spikey is funny and Stephen Amos a disappointment. Dara is excellent.TVC15 wrote:Alan Partridge is one of my favourite programmes of all time. The 2 Paul Calf programmes that were made were also great.

I didn't used to like Dara, but he's certainly grown on me. Have you seen Dara O Briain's Go 8 Bit?LoveCurryPies wrote:Jason Manford is pretty good. Agree that Dave Spikey is funny and Stephen Amos a disappointment. Dara is excellent.

He was outstanding when we went to watch him. Long time ago now. Seen a lot of good acts at frog and bucket and comedy store in manc.Braindead wrote:Steve Hughes - Australian guy, hilarious
Fantastic.FactualFrank wrote:What are people's thoughts on Tim Vine?
Fd, have you seen Ross Noble's bike show? I've seen him on QI a few times and he can be funny. Perhaps a little strange, too.Funkydrummer wrote:One guy that hasn't been mentioned yet is Ross Noble, who I think is brilliant.
Have you just woke up ?cricketfieldclarets wrote:Time Vine quality and witty puns
Stewart Francis made me **** myself when i watched him in Edinburgh. Mrs didnt get him which means he was definitely funny![]()
hes like an even better tim vine.
Andy Parsons is hit and miss on TV but was brilliant at the mechanics
Jason Manford was really good without being crude or offensive. Always a sign of someone genuinely funny. Saw him in blackpool was a proper old school good night out.
Peter Kay is hilarious. Even more so if you are from this part of the world.
Steve Hughes is genius.
Not mentioned yet but Milton Jones has me in stitches. Weird, dry but very funny.
Plenty of old school ones. Some timeless some not so much.
Quite like Sean Lock and Jon Richardson on tv shows but not seen them live.
Manfords really good live. As is moorehouse. He often does comedy store and its dirt cheap as above.TVC15 wrote:Alan Partridge is one of my favourite programmes of all time. The 2 Paul Calf programmes that were made were also great.

No ive been down the pits all day. Well I say down the pits. Working in yorkshire.tim_noone wrote:Have you just woke up ?
I mentioned earlier about Stewart Francis, very funny. I guess the downside to one liners and puns like with Tim Vine is you get the jokes quicker, but they also have a set time frame before it gets a bit too repetitive.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Time Vine quality and witty puns

Now I like him as a panelist ..as opposed to stand up like you'd mentioned.FactualFrank wrote:I mentioned earlier about Stewart Francis, very funny. Have you seen Josh Widdicombe, cricketfieldclarets? I think you'd like him.
Yes, I saw that programme and enjoyed it immensely. Agreed, he can be very "quirky" but his styleFactualFrank wrote:Fd, have you seen Ross Noble's bike show? I've seen him on QI a few times and he can be funny. Perhaps a little strange, too.
Haha, yes. This was discussed several weeks ago, so common knowledge really. If that's a problem there's the foe list but I'm sure we can both get on.cricketfieldclarets wrote:Factual Frank. Did you used to be known as muchacho?
