Re: Most Popular Girls Names
A couple of years ago I guarantee there would have been a pregnant teenager somewhere who thought 'Ebola' would make a lovely name for their child.

Re: Most Popular Girls Names
I’m like that with names as well MACCA. In fact I was saying to my oldest Dandelion Lollipop the other day isn’t their some odd names about now.MACCA wrote:Basically some folk think that if you gave your child a popular name from that list it could/is common and chavy.
I think people like unique names for their children.
These things go in circles.
I'd rather hear of a common sensible name for a child like Isabelle or Lucy , rather than Porsche or Apple-Fig-Star for instance.

Re: Most Popular Girls Names
It sort of became a modern thing in the late90s to name your child after where you believed they’d been conceived for eg Brooklyn Beckham.
I’m just glad that the night I lost my cherry that my partner for that evening didn’t fall pregnant. It wouldn’t be very fair calling a child Kavos Go Kart Track.

Re: Most Popular Girls Names
Clear to you maybe, but totally unnecessary. Not needed. Like another poster said, there is already a thread about popular names where you can layout your anti-racist, uber-tolerant credentials for all to see. We already get it. This thread is just needy attention seeking. But then, we already got that as well.

I just get the feeling that a lot of people on UpTheClarets are not anti-racist, when I was brought up with anti-racism as being the normal, human position.

I don't like racism, despite what people say on here, but I also get amused when I mock Islam and get called a racist....
People get themselves confused about what is and isn't racism more often than you'd think.

Re: Most Popular Girls Names
My real world is free of racism, largely, because my friends and family aren't racist.
However I open up this messageboard and see many racists. That's why I'm promoting anti-racism on UTC.

Why are you being so vague about it. Because youre on a wind up?
Why don't you just say which posters you think are racist and call for them to be banned?

There's a whole host of people who have identified racist posts/posters yet there they are, free to post every day.

Well make a FAO CT post and list the posters you think are racist and quote their racist posts. Its CTs (and a few others) message board and they control who gets banned and for what. Why not direct your displeasure at him?

Proving someone is racist can be difficult.Inchy wrote:Well make a FAO CT post and list the posters you think are racist and quote their racist posts. Its CTs (and a few others) message board and they control who gets banned and for what. Why not direct your displeasure at him?
Misconstruing what someone can say is the problem.
Same with the number of comments that could be misconstrued as homophobic.
There is a complaints button, but clearly it isn't used by UPTBH or it isn't clicked enough by people.
Plus upthebeehole would rather make another thread.
He did one about an attack in Nelson that got deleted I think and it would appear it was posted to lure out certain users of this forum.
That's more their style instead of direct accusations.

8 names I counted which I know belong to muslim kids I know on that list - maybe the western/british names are creeping into the thoughts of parents with a heritage from elsewhere?

My wife's called Tracey and even she feels the stigma and the "dating"! (And her best mate's called Sharon too! It's true!)
I still can't believe Bertha hasn't made that top 100. My grandma would be absolutely gutted. Bet it's close mind!

Re: Most Popular Girls Names
Just seen this question this morning having spent time last evening with the family rather than wasting it on a message board (I admit it, I am now at work wasting an idle moment).UpTheBeehole wrote:So are you not anti-racist?
So what is the point of your question, are you trying to trap me into saying I am not anti-racist and therefore a racist. I remember being called a racist once because I called Sol Campbell lazy in reply to a thread about black players not getting coaching opportunities. Apparently calling him lazy was racist because being lazy is an old racial stereotype for black people. Who would have thought it? Just goes to show you can't be too careful. It might even have been you that called me racist, then again it might have been someone else.
The point is, it seems to be your default position, argue against me, you're a racist. "Look at me, I am so anti-racist and in case you forget I'll keep reminding you"
For the record, and I wish I didn't have to say this, I am anti-racist and have been long before it became fashionable. I have had bitter family arguments in the past, when racism was commonplace and routine. When the anti-Nazi League was in existence I was part of that. I remember when the National Front marched through Burnley in the 70s, I was at their rally, heckling their speakers. (Got a bloody nose on that one).
I've been there and done it mate. What I don't feel I need to do is keep inventing threads on football message boards so that I can keep reminding faceless people who I don't know about my anti-racist credentials.
