It’s a friend of the misses.

He comes from Bacup.
Used to be a snap-op rep with a van.
Sang in a band all round the area, Rossendale, Rochdale etc.

Asked my misses to listen to him sing opera at her house. She told him he was amazing and he went to get professional training.

How do you pronounce "Bacup"? Long "A" or short?

I agree he nailed it, takes some kahunas to do what he did. Anyone who thought he was pants. Go and try what he did and gauge the reaction,I'm sure you soon find out how difficult it was. It's too easy to criticise these days try and find some positives in your life.

Assuming you're actually serious Ontario mate, it's loooong "a"!

Really enjoyed the performance. Would love to see him back and performing (with a friend) the Pearl Fishers duet.

I really enjoyed it, thought it was exceptional. Not that I am much of an expert in classical music, though my parents were avid opera enthusiasts and I picked up bits here and there from them.

Thought he did really well and was well received. I felt for him as he had to rely on our sound technicians and PA system which is not really designed for live music. I also think they didn’t turn up the backing track early on which threw him a bit. Having said that, he has a cracking pair of lungs on him.

The only reason that I asked was because the last time I was over I thought I would check out the local non-league scene, so I headed to Bacup on a Tuesday night. I told the bus driver that I wanted a ticket to Baa-cup, and he looked at me as if I had two heads. This confirms that you can never trust English pronounciations.
