Assistant refs been told to keep the flag down if they're unsure - and then let it go to VAR for goals.

Wonder if the ref's been told to tap it in, should he find himself open.

In what sense? Its been a fair and open game with good reffing. Granted there should have been an offside flag for one chance but VAR Wouldve dealt with that.

I’ve posted on so many threads about not flagging for offsides and then reviewing if the ball ends up in the net. You never get that moment back if you are onside but flagged.
Now it is with us exstatic is an understatement.

Thats the best bit about VAR. Although it can cause confusion. The russian didnt play to the whistle / flag when he was not flagged.

I dont like VAR but the best bit will be allowing play on in tight situations. The worse bits are how long it takes and killing the moment.

World cup winners - Brazil. They have gone a long time without winning it and have a good side.

Runners up - Germany.

Biggest shock - Argentina to lose all 3 games. They were awful in qualifying and are only there because of messi.

Where England will finish - semi finals. I honestly think it will be a decent tournament.

Englands best player - If he plays, trippier. His assists could be vital. If not then Kane.

Golden boot winner - Jesus. Had a rest when injured in the season so should have plenty in the tank.

Golden ball / best player winner - Neymar.

Best goalkeeper - Whoever brazil pick in goal.

You can't keep giving the ball away like the Saudis and not expect to get beat.

A very good Russian performance. They actually reminded me of ourselves; strong team performance and a number of quality individuals. Fantastic 4th and 5th goals.

Even the third goal was Vokesesque.

Only saw the first-half. Too soon to know for sure but Golovin looked far more involved than two years ago. Very tidy second goal.

Suarez licking his lips doesn't sound like a good prospect for defenders.

Can Iceland beat the Argies?

I've got a free £20 bet (WC only) and at 8/1 sounds like a decent enough long shot.

If not, any other thoughts?

The Asian qualifying group must have been poor,on today's showing the Saudi's are making up the numbers in this tournament, could be they were overawed by the occasion, just glancing at their qualifying results they beat Japan in those, and Japan are no mugs so we'll see how they cope with Uruguay and Egypt,Russia looked good but i'm still not convinced by the hosts.
