Have we stooped so low as to be considering Crouchy.
Or should it be so high?
I mean he's taller than either Vokes or Wood and dwarfs Barnsey.
Probably a better sub to bring on than Wells or possibly Wells to go the other way?
That's about as much as I can contribute on this one.

Maybe someone can get an email ready to send out at the last minute to assist with our recruitment.

Said this before on this forum, but some of you lot really would believe anything!
Slightly off topic, but some of you may remember that I used to do a MoanersXI of posters on here that always used to find fault, no matter what the Club did on or off the pitch. I don't bother anymore, because it would be the same names, generally, but I think we now have a new 'signing' in Wokingclaret.
Well done mate!

My personal opinion is that we could and should do better.
But Sean Dyche knows far better than me and all of us if Peter Crouch could successfully add something to our attack for one season
I can't see it being true though

I'd be happy. My enjoyment in football is from watching players play football. If I see Burnley playing and winning lots of matches and finishing 7th, I'm happy.Claretuk wrote:Voice your opinion then! Would you be happy with a 38yr old Crouch signing for the 7th best team in England?
Obviously if you get your entertainment from watching transfer rumours and not from watching matches, you won't have had much of a time the past few years. The entertainment value of transfer windows has been poor, I admit. So I suppose it depends where your priorities lie.

I would be underwhelmed by this but he scores a lot with his head.A last 5 mins with him, Vokes and Barnes as we lump it forward for a equaliser would be difficult for any prem defence to cope with.

I'd like him to sign. As stated above, he would be very useful off the bench. He has never relied on pace, holds the ball up well, can take a challenge (Stan's words) and would score a few goals.

I don’t think our scouts have much to do with the majority of our signings. They are almost always players who will be very well known to SD and/or his backroom staff.Right_winger wrote:Oh dear are our scouting/recruitment team that bad that we’d have to stoop to a signing like this?

For what it’s worth I think signing another striker who isn’t much different to what we already have (albeit much older and taller), would be slightly bemusing and smack a little of desperation.
Hopefully just paper talk.

Re: Peter Crouch linked
I've nothing against Crouch, I've always been a fan, although his age is against him now.
Biggest issue is we should be progressing as a club. This move wouldn't even keep unsteady, it would be a step backwards.
It's strange how things change quickly. Pre pre season and the transfer window I was confident of a top 12 finish, which I think would have been an excellent season. A month of no deals, poor form and injuries and I'm beginning to think we have blown this. My gut tells me we are in for a relegation scrap that we won't win.
I hope I'm wrong, but that feel good factor seems to have gone.

We was in a relegation scrap regardless, last season was a bit of a freak season in terms of results an teams off form. Was always going to be tougher this season even with extra signings but i agree with no signings an a few injuries an not long until August 9th I'm fearing the worstColburn_Claret wrote:I've nothing against Crouch, I've always been a fan, although his age is against him now.

I presume every team should be beating other teams 10-0 at this stage of the season if they are to do well in the Prem.

As for the club taking a step backwards, well that's just silly.
The feel good factor seems to have gone? To many fans on this forum are always quick to rubbish the club no matter what it does.
I would wait until the transfer window shuts and then discuss our business or lack of it.

Re: Peter Crouch linked
Nothing against Crouch, and he is useful regardless of age, but he is just simply not what the squad needs.
We quite clearly lack any depth in the attacking midfield role with only Hendrick seemingly an option as ‘number 10’ who has frankly been poor at best for more than six months, and was poor again against Aberdeen.
Rodriguez could fill that, in my opinion, as he is capable of playing that withdrawn forward role. To hear we are struggling to sign him and are now being linked with Peter Crouch for half a million, and seemingly absolutely nowhere near any other signing is pretty demoralising at this point of the window.
People can defend the club all they want on this, and we have done superbly well for them to keep our trust - of course. However, every year that you stand still you go backwards in this league. Yes, we finished seventh, but do we really expect to be that far away from the relegation shake up again this year? We have got quite a few injuries/players returning from injury (no clue how fit they are or whether they will break down again/recapture their form), Lost some good squad players and are looking increasingly light in almost every position as it currently stands. Not to mention we are going into this season with key squad members such as Ben Mee, Sam Vokes, Steven Defour and Jeff Hendrick out of contract at the end of it.
I’m concerned and I think more should be - do we really think that with a couple of weeks left we are going to pull the required four or five signings that squad needs out of the bag? I’d say it’s a nigh on no chance.

It's normal. We did fine replacing them. My point is don't worry about what might or might not happen in a year's time. Things change. You worry too much, for example you heavily criticise Hendrick but at the same time fret about his contract.jedi_master wrote:I don’t disagree at all, my point is they needed replacing, as will the ones we have now if they don’t resign (on top of the gaps we already have I mean).
