Rooney - awesome
Re: Rooney - awesome
I’ve seen a few games on TV and also went to see Toronto live last year. Toronto won the MLS and looked pretty decent to me. Giovinco is a good player - apparently on £120k a week. Looks like he could probably play in the Premier League but would only be for one of the smaller teams - and he is one of the best players in the league.
I think overall it’s probably championship (possibly league one) standard. As said the players are usually very fit but lack technical ability which is why the older has been players like Robbie Keane and David Villa end up standing out.
The US national team has always been pretty strong but that’s only 20 odd players and again success has been based on physicality / fitness rather than technique.
When you see the likes of Jose Altidore and BWP recognised as some of the top players in the MLS you know that the quality and depth is lacking.
The atmosphere at Toronto was very good though. Different to Burnley but quite a bit louder !!

Re: Rooney - awesome
Went to Southampton on Sunday and the saints issued their supporters with the happy clappers, also Huddersfield do. Let's hope our lot don't bring this artificial atmosphere to the Turf. I guess the yanks would love that kind of thing and our brass have more than likely took the idea off them.
The atmosphere against Aberdeen the other week was electric and I can assure you most US soccer fans would have given anything to have been a part of that

The atmosphere at Toronto was nothing like the happy clapped stuff you mention. It was mainly created by one particulars section of the ground which is specifically earmarked as a singing type section....these fans were allowed flares, large flags etc and it reminded me of some of the sights you would see at the likes of AC Milan, Galatasary etc. It was surprisingly impressive and nothing like what I expected. I think they have tried to introduce these sections of fans at a number of MLS teams.Top Claret wrote:Went to Southampton on Sunday and the saints issued their supporters with the happy clappers, also Huddersfield do. The atmosphere at 60k ground Atlanta where Chris McCann plays now looks pretty good aswell.
I don’t think American fans do happy clapping at any of their sports events - the crowds / atmosphere at American football are amazing as they are at ice hockey.

You're stuck in 1982 American soccer. You might want to see how it is now before you make any further comments.Top Claret wrote:Went to Southampton on Sunday and the saints issued their supporters with the happy clappers, also Huddersfield do. The reason defences are poor is pretty simple. You're allowed x amount of marquee players so you're going to spend it on flair, because you have to justify it to your fans. Consequently you get a league heavy on experienced and talented attacking types and very few quality defenders.
Re: Rooney - awesome
I'd agree with that, Championship level, some League One level sides. The overall quality of the MLS is never League Two standard thoughTVC15 wrote:I’ve seen a few games on TV and also went to see Toronto live last year. Re: Rooney - awesome
Just realized. Josef Martinez 46 goals in 46 games for Atlanta was bought from Torino for 4.5 mill in Feb 2017 (13 in 76 for Torino). Which means he played most of a season with Joe Hart

I'd rather have Almiron, Martinez is very good though, oddly wears a gum shield.CharlieinNewMexico wrote:Just realized. Josef Martinez 46 goals in 46 games for Atlanta was bought from Torino for 4.5 mill in Feb 2017 (13 in 76 for Torino). Which means he played most of a season with Joe Hart

My jury's still out on Almiron. Still young of course, but didn't particularly excel at Lanus.
