I cannot understand why they stitch poppies to football shirts in the first place.

Excellent point.

Wood, Barnes, Vydra and Vokes should all wear number 10 with Payton on the back.

Come to think of it...

So they should all have the same name and number on the back?

Don't care if he wears one or not, just a criticism that he decided to come to England to earn his money, just seems a bit two faced to me.

I'm against whaling, but I'd take a £100k a week job in Tokyo.

There is a lot of whaling goes on on this board, especially every time we lose ;)

Is whaling on a messageboard a bit like fishing but even more so. In which case this thread is probably a prime example!

If English football and its clubs feel that strongly about the Casualties of War they can afford to donate the money to the charities whenever they want they don't have to wait until November every year in some sort of half arsed publicity stunt that continuously backfires because the game in this country now attracts a worldwide participation of players coaches and owners from different backgrounds and cultures.

In summary football in this country has nothing to do with Remembrance,Politics or War and hasn't since the days of national service and it should steer well bloody clear.

Some of the whales on this message board appear to be a protected species.

From what I can gather Matic is basically saying that on reflection he is now pro ethnic cleansing. That’s a very bold statement to make.
Serbians seem like really awful ‘people’.

I won't be wearing one either.

The whole poppy thing has been hijacked by the far right / Tommy Robinson / EDL types and until the British Legion come out against theses facist imbeciles I'll be giving it a wide berth.

Once they condemn Robinson and the like I'll happily start supporting the cause again.

Perhaps they are awful. You know; the sort who would tar everyone in a country with the same brush and consider them some sort of subhuman, so much so that they would put inverted commas round "people" when referring to them.

Was it that sort of awful person you were thinking of?

It is not the purpose of The Royal British Legion to become embroiled in politics because the Legion’s original purpose was straightforward: to care for those who had suffered as a result of service in the Armed Forces during the war, whether through their own service or through that of a husband, father or son.
They have to adapt to today’s existing activities which is what the Poppy Appeal helps them to do. “The Legion is at the heart of a national network that supports our Armed Forces community through thick and thin -ensuring their unique contribution is never forgotten.”

They have no political agenda and consequently, I would suggest, will not wish to get involved in condemning those who seem to be trying to hijack the poppy symbol.
It is completely a matter of personal choice as to whether or not an individual wears a poppy and long may that continue, however, I don't expect that TRBL will get involved in the political aspects.
