Iv had a bad experience with Ryanair.

If you are after cheap quick cattle class travel with little to no luggage then they are adequate.

However Iv been stung with them on the way back from Faro to Manchesterast last year where the flight was just cancelled at short notice with no explanation. The care and customer service was beyond shocking. In the end they were persued for compensation (which I won eventually) Iv vowed never to use them again for this reason.

Jet2 and easyJet are much better alternatives if your after a cheap flight otherwise better of sticking with the likes of BA, KLM etc etc

Jet2 are the best by a mile, actually read a report recently saying they came out at the top for budget airlines and it wasnt even close.

EasyJet and especially Jet2 fly to far fewer destinations, far less frequently than Ryanair. And cost significantly more.

As for sticking with "the likes of BA, KLM etc" (a) they probably only fly where you want to go once/twice a week, (b) they charge the earth, (c) many of them now have similar baggage policies ( ie the first price has one small bag and then you pay more for extra), and if you're in bog-standard economy, the experience is little different. Just as an example, I flew SanFrancisco to Auckland last November with "airline of the year" Air New Zealand and I can honestly say the experience was exactly the same, if not slightly worse than Ryanair. But for all my money, I did get a "free" (haha) inedible dinner, one single glass of wine, and a yogurt and cheese for breakfast. :D

Like I said before each to their own.

I cannot understand this constant criticism of Ryanair!
There was a programme on recently "Is Ryanair the UK's most hated airline?" No prizes for guessing their point of view.

Folks, it is a budget airline. You get what you pay for. If you don't want any extras then don't buy any.
I have used it lots of times and never had a problem.

Maybe the criticism came from the thousands of flights they cancelled at short notice for customers ruining their holidays ?
Just a shot in the dark like !

Apparently, you now have to pay extra to bring on a small suitcase to put in the overhead storage. Otherwise, what you bring on has to be small enough to fit under the seat in front. Tight bastards!
I travel often with them. Not much choice really to where I go. Every time I book something changes. Ita not for nothing they for voted one of the worst airlines in the world. Alao if you fly to Spain with them sitting among all the drunks is another joy.

When they work they're fine.

When they cancel flights at short notice, provide no assistance in getting to your destination and then try and wriggle out of paying compensation then you can see why people dislike them.

I've flown a lot over the years and I'm not that picky about the plane, meals, etc but in terms of customer service following cancellations, etc then that's where the difference comes to the fore.
