What people have to realise I think is that opposition fans have an image in their heads about what Burnley are, and that image has been reinforced by managers and other fans propagating the myth.
There is no such thing as anti-football. That is a myth, there is only football.
The long ball only exists when smaller clubs play the ball long, when top clubs do it it is a 'brilliant incisive forward pass'.
If Burnley are physical then is that any worse than players cheating and diving all over the place?
Fans of clubs like Watford take comfort in this myth, they see it as some kind of excuse for yet another defeat.
The idea that we are a long ball team is only partly true, we are capable of playing great stuff as well.
I can't be bothered visiting the Watford site but if I did I would be saying we have just beaten you 3-0 (yes that is a shameful 3-0) on your own ground, if we play anti-football what the hell do you play, tennis?
Like I have said so many times, if you don't like how we play find a way of beating us or shut the f*ck up.
Sorry for Burnley fans.

I don't recall the old Wimbledon 'crazy gang' being labelled with the 'anti-football slogan.

On the subject of Burnley becoming a global brand you'll now see Burnley shirts in Equatorial Guinea which is possibly a first. I go there a few times a year on business and was asked to bring back some of our shirts by the locals. When I go back nowadays a couple of the guys come up to me and discuss "our" team! The power of TV and the Premier League. If you'd have told me ten years ago Burnley would be recognised in Africa I'd have laughed at you. Nowadays they are in danger of becoming popular on a global basis

indeed, here's a screenshot from my dashcam of Watford Gap services...SalisburyClaret wrote:Watford and Watford Gap - are two entirely different things - Watford Gap is a geographical feature that has a service station named after it and Watford is the place we go to collect our points
