Re: Jimmy Greaves
I've seen all these players play live and on TV as well and in my opinion Jimmy Greaves is the greatest, natural goal scorer I have ever seen. He floated over the pitch at speed, always with complete control of the ball and a God given gift to hit the back of the net. What a player.

Re: Jimmy Greaves
Brian Clough was retired by Chris Harker the Bury keeper, who at the time had developed a reputation for injuring players by diving at their feet. Probably coincidence of course.

Re: Jimmy Greaves
I can’t think of any occasion that they would ever play in the same team...other than possibly the Football League eleven.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 11:36 amhe told us that Jimmy Mac was the finest player he ever played with or against
Any idea if they ever did play together?

He said with OR against, basically comparing him with all other opponents as well as team mates.claretblue wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 6:54 pmI can’t think of any occasion that they would ever play in the same team...other than possibly the Football League eleven.

I understood it was more a case of an icy pitch doing for him.Darnhill Claret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 19, 2020 6:47 pmBrian Clough was retired by Chris Harker the Bury keeper, who at the time had developed a reputation for injuring players by diving at their feet. Probably coincidence of course.

Re: Jimmy Greaves
Posted this before but...
I owned a bakery shop in a very affluent part of Hertfordshire 7 or 8 years ago. One Saturday morning I was in the shop and wearing a BFC polo shirt. A bloke looks at my shirt and says Burnley? Do you know Jimmy McIlroy? I said I have met him a few times and he was probably our greatest player.
I used to go on holiday with him replies the bloke, he was best friends with my father. Who was your father? Danny Blanchflower. I stood there taking in the surreal conversation, I was talking to the son of a Spurs legend about his friend the great Jimmy McIlroy. I wish I could have spent more time with him and chatted more as I am sure he would have had plenty of tales to tell.
