Played very well away at Grimsby and got a 1-1 draw, but got beat in the second leg 2-0 at home after a very lackluster performance. Grimsby got promoted that year, and more importantly for us 11 days after that 2-0 defeat we beat them 2-1 on the Turf in the league. If I remember rightly Grimsby brought only couple of coaches of fans for the league game, yet for the Tuesday night second leg they brought 2,000 fans including some real idiots who caused a lot of bother before and after the game.Steve-Harpers-perm wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 8:22 amI’d forgotten we nearly got to Wembley that season!

As bad as we were in the first half of this season our form in the second half was impressive.
Was it mostly just down to Little playing more and the Payton signing? Did much else change? Memories are a bit hazy

Yes they did bring a few to the cup tie. Think they had a few trips to Wembley around this period.ChorltonCharlie wrote: ↑Thu Apr 09, 2020 10:39 amPlayed very well away at Grimsby and got a 1-1 draw, but got beat in the second leg 2-0 at home after a very lackluster performance.
