My son and myself had traveled up from Malta the day before for the game and pre-match I was quite confident. As soon as Wade's shot went in I became a bag of nerves and must have looked at my watch a million times before the final whistle. Unfortunately we could not stay on for the trophy presentation and post-match celebrations as we had a plane to catch that very same evening. I had joked with my son that hopefully the match would not go into extra time as we would have to either miss the extra time or the flight. He said "I know what we'll miss if it goes into extra time!!!"Herts Clarets wrote: ↑Tue Jun 16, 2020 1:01 pmIt was quite unbelievable. I was stood with my Dad and when the ball was played down into the corner, with nearly 5 minutes of the added on time played, I remember saying "we've done it, we're there, we are Premier League". I think it was Pato down by the corner and as soon as it was taken the final whistle went. As I walked out of Wembley stadium, I bumped into a fan I have known for many years (those who read the Martin Buchan thread a couple of weeks ago will remember an end of game protest inside and outside the ground at Chester. This was the same bloke). This is for every trip to Hartlepool, Rochdale, Halifax and every other sh!t hole that supporting our club has dragged me to. Now look at us.

Our defence was shocking, as much as I liked Caldwell and Carlisle they weren't a good enough partnership for the premiership, maybe a good, premiership defender could have carried one of them (like Ben Mee)Clarets4me wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 8:02 amI suspect if Owen Coyle hadn't left and was still here, the defense would still not be sorted out properly !!
We struggled for years to have a good left back, wasnt really until ward got moved there that we sorted it. Tyrone Mears was the only one good enough for the step up
