I’m with you Joey13. I like tea as well, and you can’t make a good cuppa without H2O.
And beer. Man's lifeblood!!!

Going back to the original post with a misunderstanding/incorrect word...

I was driving my missus and the parents-in-law around Central London 2 or 3 years ago (it was a Saturday, not too bad traffic...) and we drove past MI5 at which point mother-in-law said, "oh, there's where James Bond works... You know........ MFI!"

Definitely "No." It's just Cameron's vanity project, now rehashed as Johnson's. Just look at the cost, now heading for £200 Billion, and all to save about 45 minutes on a train journey. Ridiculous when you think of other more worthy projects that the money could be spent on. e.g. we could build the forty new hospitals that Boris keeps lying about.

I wouldn't care so much but it's only the super rich that will be able to afford to travel on it. It's the rail equivelent of Concorde, and like Concorde, it's guaranteed to be beset by problems.
Same in California!........Absolute madness.
An awful lot of other, more important things could get fixed with that money.
The price goes up constantly too.

We were watching Pointless the other week and the round was words with a double "d" as in Waddle ...

The Mrs said "Bra"

I said "Bra" doesn't have double d in it ....

So she wobbled her boobs at me and we both laughed like hell 🤣🤣🤣

It won't, because you won't be able to afford the ticket prices. Unless you're one of the elite classes that is.
So you’re suggesting that you’ll need to in the “ elite class” to travel on the train to London ? Is this the same thought train as your ludicrous assumption Boris could have “ built 40 hospitals very quickly “ have you any idea of the infrastructure of a large hospital and it’s relation to It’s immediate trust partners? Have you even left your house since 1974?

I would agree that we don't need it and it will be very expensive. However, it could supply jobs for many people at a time when lots are losing theirs. And whilst it will be the government,(us), paying for HS2 and the wages for these people, we's still be paying if unfortunately these people had to claim unemployment benefits etc.
Just personal thoughts and I'm no expert.
I'm not sure building it for the sake of keeping people in work is the best reason.

If they want to build infrastructure to keep folk off the dole they could try them started on the 200,000 houses or 40 hospitals they promised instead.

With all the monies spent why is the line not going towards Liverpool to regenerate that area
The Manc Express either Euston to Piccadilly or Reading to Newcastle is a fast service
One solution would be to cut out stops at Banbury Leamington Wolverhampton Stafford and Stockport
These local stations could be serviced with sprinter local more frequently available trains

Railways aren't only used for passengers. Freight is a very important consideration.

Current tracks are running pretty near capacity so removing passenger services off them will allow more slots for freight.

We are a trading nation and have to be. Having a top logistics system is essential.

Exactly this. A quicker journey isnt the reason for needing hs2, increasing capacity is.

I don't know what you've been reading, but I've NEVER said Boris could have “ built 40 hospitals very quickly" I think Boris is a fool who just has a wish list and thinks wishing for something will make it happen.

By the time this stupid HS2 is finally built, it will have cost at least double the current highest estimates. Who will pay for that? The passengers of course.
