Booked once in 42 years
Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
Claret Tony saw and documented my one sending off (up North) playing in my home town league for Red Rose at Walsden, Todmorden . I was half decent in the air and always a threat at corners
I was about to get my head on a well delivered corner yards from the goal-line when I was pulled back by my arm and a certain goal was missed. The whistle went and I was at least happy that a penalty was being given. When I got up the ref was certainly not awarding a penalty and was pointing in the opposite direction. I went up to him and asked why no pen and he said that it was me who was being penalising for fouling their player. I just said "B*****S!" and walked away only to be told that I was being given a red card. I got fined £8 i.e. £1 a letter and wish I had got my moneys worth and really let rip. Tony was our manager and editor of our Club Newsletter. At that time I had a very red bloodshot eye as a result of a recent black eye and he took great pleasure in writing the headline "RED EYED RED ROSE GETS RED CARD" I had to tell him I thought that was pretty good but he told me it wasn't as good as the headline what he wanted to use. "W**KER WOODWARD WALKS AT WALSDEN. The git!!

When I moved to Somerset in my early 20's I played for a village side called Stoke Sub Hamdon. A decent team in the Yeovil League. One Saturday we were playing the A303 derby against Montacute a village directly over the other side of the A303 from us. It was a finely balanced game at 1-1 when I did a particularly stupid, unnecessary and ultimately mistimed tackle on the edge of the box by the touchline. The ref had no hesitation rightly awarding the penalty. I was gutted and embarrassed as my team mates looked at me daggers. The winger walked past me and said you "You useless T**T". I really didn't need to be told that as I was peed off with myself enough. I saw the ref wasn't looking and and punched him in the face but didn't expect him to punch me back and a full on fight ensued. When it was broken up we were of course both sent off. As we walked off the guy asked me why I had punched him and when I told him he said "fair enough I deserved that!!" I never thought much about it after a few beers but months later when my Bristol based Father In Law who was a Police Inspector came for Sunday lunch he chucked the Bristol Newspaper at me and highlighted was my name in the sports pages Andy Woodward Stoke Sub Hamdon Suspended and fined £28 - VIOLENT CONDUCT. Lunch was interesting!!

Sent off 9 times in 32 adult years as a goalkeeper. Only once was for a “professional foul” and I was mad about that! The rest were when the red mist comes down when someone leaves his foot in.
Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
Played 40 ish games a season for 20 years, hardly ever made a tackle so only got booked twice for stupid reasons. Played in a cup final at Craven Cottage (scored a beauty) but got a bad tackle on my ankle. Went off for treatment and whilst stood on the touch line screaming at the ref for ages to let me back on, the ball came right to me so I booted it in frustration and got booked for entering the field of play without the refs permission. Second one was as a spectator on the touch line stood next to the manager, ref was having an absolute shocker, made another howler and I shook my head in disbelief and got yellow carded for dissent. Didn’t receive a fine for either.

Played a number of years in Nelson and Colne league as either CH or LB. I must admit I could be a bit of a Revies Leeds type player but never got booked in the league. Nowadays I would have got sent off every week! However the only booking I did get was a FA cup match against the semi pros of Ramsbottom where their young winger was about to be taken out by yours truly but I missed him but still got booked. Refs can be biased in favour of the big boys at any level. To top it all we led 0-1 at ht but got stuffed 6-1 ft and the cheeky sods billed us for the pies after the game!

I can confirm that Woody's description is just about spot on for the incident and subsequent report. What he failed to add though was that this game was played very close to the end of the season when the manager, who had very little talent, tended to stroll on for the closing minutes as a substitute. I can confirm he scored that day with a delicate chip into the top corner. Thinking about it, the goal was 1. very Defour like, 2. very unmanager like.Woody9229 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 8:40 amClaret Tony saw and documented my one sending off (up North) playing in my home town league for Red Rose at Walsden, Todmorden . Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
Played hundreds of games in local Sunday league and also Lancs Amateur League over a 14 year period mainly as a forward. I was only booked twice (13 years apart) against the same club (Hesketh Casuals, Southport) on the same pitch on the same touchline within about 30 yards from each other! The first was a typical forward 'helping' his defence with a studs up tackle in the left back position. The second was more unusual. I had been playing left wing on a muddy pitch and was enjoying a fairly decent game against a right full back who was mercifully even slower than me. I had managed to go past him a number of times and he was getting annoyed. To make matters worse some of his mates had turned up from the pub to give him some vocal support. Each time I beat him his mates were laughing and jeering at him and I was enjoying myself. However after putting the ball past him once more he dropped me face down in the mud with a wild kick again causing much hilarity on the sidelines. I got up slowly, covered head to toe in mud and in each of my hands had a full clod of thick sticky mud. I just shook my head at him and called him a few expletives and gently lobbed the handful of mud in his direction. To my amazement the ref came running in like a maniac and booked me for dangerous play with the immortal words "there couldve been a stone in that - it might've took his eye out". There was no mention to the full back about scything me down a number of times. The lads on the sidelines were falling about in hysterics. I was fined £25 by Jim Kenyon at the LFA but I refused to pay it and in the end my club secretary paid it for me to end the matter.

Another Blackburner
Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
Played at various levels from 15 to now where I am playing a very competitive walking football locally.
I was never booked but sent off once against Whitewell Bottom. I never spoke back to referees and used to accept all decisions as they never changed their mind .
I think this stood me in good stead for my sending off.
The referee was Ian Routh and I was dismissed for hitting a guy with a left hook after he had kicked me in the face as we slid into each other. I caught him perfectly and to my utter ter amazement I knocked him clean out. Their goalie ran the length of the pitch to have a go at me, so I hit him first and he ran all the way back!
Ian took me to one side and said he had never had any bother with me before so I had to walk but he said he would say I pushed the guy in the face in his report.
Got a 3 week ban which was 3 games Saturday, 3 five a side games Sunday morning and 3 games Sunday.

Mmm You sure it was that match Tony? I can remember you scoring in an end of season match and I was on the pitch and when the ball crawled over the lineClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Dec 11, 2020 4:47 pmI can confirm that Woody's description is just about spot on for the incident and subsequent report. However as a match official been involved in over 600 games (referee for about 400 of those) I have sent off 95 players and cautioned 753

At least not clarets mad
Every one absolutely deserved . Both sides came off saying how good my performance was.
Even got one in for the most horrific dive you have ever seen.

Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
Forgot - was captaining Calder, playing a House Match at BGS and the other 2 Houses were on the next pitch. The 2 refs were Tweedle Dum and Tweddle Dee. I was well miffed, trying to get my puddings going and when our ref, Tweddle Dum, waggled past me I hurled a large, stinking, muddy divot at the back of his head in protest against a poor decision. It found the target and slid down his neck and wedged against his collar. He turned to me and asked who did it? I, of course, denied all knowledge, shoulder shrug, Rattin style and all. Just as I thought I'd escaped Tweedle Dee blew to halt his match and waggled over anouncing, "I saw who did it, it were im!), pointing me out.Tweedle Dum dismissed me on the spot and I slouched off for the proverbal early bath, hoping that Ron Parry would not be around but he was and pinched me by the upper sideboard and gave me a fierce bollocking. Still laugh about it now and am now a mate of Teedle Dum's. Priceless!
Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
Was never booked or sent off, but whilst turning out as a kid in mens football in the early 90s for Lucas Sports one of my team mates (I'm useless with names) but he was a gnarly old veteran, avoided a booking in amusing circumstances. He'd niggled at one of their defenders a few times and eventually committed a foul that finally got the refs attention. The conversation was something like this;
Ref, reaching for his book, 'Right I've seen enough, whats your name?'
Player 'Fred Astaire'
Ref 'OK, comedian are we?'
Player 'No ref, I'm a dancer'

Re: How was/is your Football Disciplinary record?
I played for many years and like many above was only booked once.I was waiting to take a free kick for The Prairie at Edge End and was unhappy that the wall wasn't 10 yards. The ref wasn't having any of it so I paced out the 8 yards! only for him to book me

You’d have still got it up and down with a wall 8 yards away. Wand of a left foot
