All of them bar Maguire and Stones. He is miles ahead of Coady/Mings/White/Godfrey. Dunk/Tomori/Konsa and Keane are better than them as well.
Southgate has picked the second best Brighton/Everton and Villa English defenders. Thats how bad it is.

He is miles ahead of someone Chelsea bid £40M+ for?
Godfrey is young and versatile, can fill multiple positions, wont make the final cut.
I'd have Mings over Tarkowski for England, not in the Burnley system though.
Coady is very good in a back 5 and a very good leader, a system Southgate likes.

Henderson and Maguire who are injured get name in the squad

You're talking out of your ass though, Bamford isn't in and he plays for Leeds and has had an incredible season. White is young and has had a very very good season, he's clearly highly rated and has been heavily linked with Liverpool/Chelsea for a reason. I'm not a massive Southgate fan but he's ALWAYS gone for young players so I'm not surprised he's gone for White over Tarkowski/Dunk, Greenwood over Ings, Rice over Cork/Westwood.

Picking 26 and explaining to others why they were not included in that squad would have been hard enough

But the fact that he has now named 33 means he is going to have some even more difficult conversations with up to seven of the guys named

A man who can't be seen to make tough decisions is also seen as a weak man - you only have to look and listen to the guy to know he is missing a backbone and other things from his nether region

I think a big reason behind this is that 3 English clubs have a cup final to play and so there is potential for a fair few of his squad to pick up an injury.

Im guessing as soon as the Champions League final is done he'll name his proper squad.

Henderson and Grealish are just getting over theirs, meaning there will be fitness concerns and checks to be done.

I listened to the interview at 2pm and he didn't appear to be missing anything.

He made it clear he prefers to have his squad picked by now, BUT due to the strange season etc they need to assess some players for injuries they know all about and a couple they not sure about.
Plus of course the cup finals.

He's using all of the time available to him which is sensible.
