Pope is not in the England squad
Re: Pope is not in the England squad
To play out from the back you need defenders and midfielders who are really comfortable with the ball and can make space for others to receive a pass etc, I dont think we have that personnel especially in defence hence we need to be able to mix it up more.

Re: Pope is not in the England squad
For me not a lot between them. Both very good keepers. Nick is awesome at catching crosses and shot stopping. Jordan a good shot stopper and brilliant at finding players with 50-70 yard passes. In fairness he , like Joe Hart at the start of his England career, has not done a lot wrong for England and just shades itStalbansclaret wrote: ↑Tue May 25, 2021 6:28 pmYou think Pickford is better than Pope "all round" ...Really ? Better at coming for crosses ? Better at shot-stopping ? Better at avoiding critical errors ?

Re: Pope is not in the England squad
G Southgate should in my view have made a public statement as to why Pope has not been picked, ie “ in the light of his injury, I am unable to pick Pope”
That Burnley have struggled to win without him is a testament to his quality.
G Southgate team I hope wins the Euros , but I am not confident in his ability find the right team. He has blind spots about players.

Pope and Burnley had already declared his withdrawal due to injury so Southgate didn't need to say anythingSouthLondonexile wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 12:40 pmG Southgate should in my view have made a public statement as to why Pope has not been picked, ie “ in the light of his injury, I am unable to pick Pope”

Re: Pope is not in the England squad
I saw a clip on the England Twitter page where Southgate did talk about Popes omission. Saying something along the lines of Pope is incredibly unselfish and he is gutted about his injury.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 1:30 pmPope and Burnley had already declared his withdrawal due to injury so Southgate didn't need to say anything

Re: Pope is not in the England squad
I disagree, with all the confusion regarding season ticket renewals the least Southgate could have done is recorded a VT statement to our fans. Personally I think if he had anything going about him he'd have gotten in touch with CT and submitted an article for this site to explain the Pope/England situation.GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed May 26, 2021 1:30 pmPope and Burnley had already declared his withdrawal due to injury so Southgate didn't need to say anything
