Would it be possible for a sprinter to win the yellow jersey?
only if it is on a first day usually it has happened, Cav has done it - though not in Harrogate win he first went for it and had an awful crash

If you mean at the end of the Tour, NO. It would be like Linford Christie winning a marathon.

Cav takes another stage win, and he's now just 2 shy of the legendary Eddy Merckx.

Mathieu van der Poel retains the yellow jersey.

Sensational stuff from Cav. This is now turning into a golden opportunity for the green jersey win, more stage victories and of course, that record. I couldn’t be happier for him. Awesome.

His achievement is even more remarkable given everything he's been through in the last few years, it just shows what an exceptional character he truly is.

It would be great if he could break that record in this TDF, and if he carries on riding like he is there's every chance that he will create history.

Punchy from MvdP, Jumbo Visma and a few others today - Team UAE flogging themselves for Pogacar and he will likely be alone with 20km+ to go

Brilliant stage yesterday, like watching a one-day classic race.

Carapaz must've burnt a fair bit of energy for zero gain at the end; wonder if he'll regret that today.

I was ticked off with Movistar chasing him down for Pogacar. None of their business.

They were riding for Enric Mas's position though, helping Pogacar was a by-product of that.

Pogacar going for yellow having broken all his rivals - it really looks all over

there is a concern that Cavendish could be out of time limits today - that group is big so may get reinstated, however Cav would lose all his green jersey points in such circumstances

Pog was Merx like - that was the reference that kept coming out today = i fully recommend watching the whole race on the itv hub playback if you can - an absolutely astonishing day all round

Thomas fell back on the first climb and rode with the sprinters all the way home inside the first hour

Possibility Thomas is hanging in to help Carapaz if he recovers enough. Another tough stage tomorrow before the rest day.
Felt for Carapaz. After doing so much hard work he lost it all on the wet descent to the finish.

Great win from Ben O'Connor - a better day for Thomas, though Porte fell back alarmingly early and Pog decided to stretch his legs at the end to give himself an extra 34 seconds over the main podium contenders - it is just too easy for him - if he chooses he could win the tour by over 10 minutes it would seem

Cavendish makes the time cut again, though some other sprinters didn't - Cav still has to get through a double ascent of Mont Ventoux in Stage 1 before the sprint finishes of Stages 12 and 13 - the green jersey competition is hotting up after an incredible performance by Colbrelli

Cav has usually managed to get to Paris whatever mountains they put in front of him. The “bus” normally times it to perfection. The first ascent of Mont Ventoux is only cat1 because their starting height is higher. The second is the toughie.

It's a while since Cav has ridden a three-week race though so it'll be a real challenge for him. Hope he can get through it though.

I'm not sure this race is over yet...too much has happened so far to think it's all wrapped up. Pogacar doesn't have a particularly strong team and he only needs to have 1 bad day!
I'm hoping for fireworks at the weekend!

A great day for Wout van Aert, Pogacar showed a moment of being human after Ineos flog themselves and the peloton to death, and a touch of class from Cav as he passed the Simpson memorial

https://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/watc ... nt-ventoux

Cav makes the time cut comfortably but Luke Rowe of Grenadiers does not and is now out of the race

I’m not sure if he didn’t just sit up. He crossed the line with Vingegaard, Carapaz & Uran. He might be clever as well.
Another sprinters day tomorrow. Only one cat3 all day and downhill into Nimes. Come on Cav.

34 for Cavendish - a bit crazy in the last couple of km but an incredible finish

There is lots of talk about gongs for the England Team at the moment but Cav should be in line for a major one at the end of his career now - though I suspect he is more revered in France than this country

Well done Mark Cavendish. What a sportsman he has been.

IF we have learnt anything from this tour is that it will take a hard GC race every single day to challenge Pog - perhaps only Jumbo Visma have a team for that - the riding and riders seems to have come full circle back to Mercx and Hinault

Ineos have set up a team of climbers to support Thomas. After his injuries they have been poor and Carapaz has been isolated on a regular basis.
Vingegaard is a revelation. I had never heard of him and was checking back to the earlier TT today, he finished third. Looks like Carapaz might have to settle for third with another TT to come.

Ineos' team of climbers should still have been around to support Carapaz. TGH and Porte have been miles off the pace.
