The match wasn't stopped because of the severity of the injury. It'll be nothing worse than happens occasionally on football pitches, although far more uncommon in cricket.

Re: Yorks v Lancs
I haven't made a joke about his injury so I don't know why you are taking offence.
The game has been halted because Headingley doesn't have a drainage system fit for purpose.
When a ground doesn't drain properly water can come back up to the surface, as it gets drawn up by sunshine.
There will be a backlash against Yorkshire as the groundsmen didn't seem to be out working to get the game on.
In contrast Lords was flooded last night but started on time this morning.

They'll all be celebrating over the border, eating their turnip & rhubarb crumble after successful rain dance.

Re: Yorks v Lancs
When was the last time a team won the toss, put the opposition in, and failed to pick up a single bowling point, having seen the full allocation of overs be bowled?
What a shambles of a county…. Now hoping their various southern imports and kolpaks can bat for 2 days to avoid an embarrassing defeat.

Re: Yorks v Lancs
My mistake…. I’m not used to the weather costing Lancashire victories away from old Trafford.
Maybe Yorkshire just didn’t want to face the worlds greatest ever pace bowler.
No answer to the first point still…… when was the last time a team won the toss, elected to bowl, and failed to get a single bowling bonus point?

That’s really embarrassing for an international ground.

You can understand the Yorkies getting in the umpires ear to get the game off.
Rules out being bowled out twice in an afternoon

I honestly think the umpires are scared of being sued for being negligent over the injury yesterday.
Why else would a ground be declared unfit in the middle of bloody heatwave?

Sounds like Yorkshire’s performance in this game has been as embarrassing as your performance on The Chase!
Still....
Never mind sweetie

Re: Yorks v Lancs
It's now emerged that the match was due to be played at Scarborough, but was moved for financial reasons ( get more punters in and make more money ! ), not a good look for " Minor Counties North " !!
A combination of greed and incompetence by the looks of things, which will just reinforce certain stereotypes about Yorkshire ..... perhaps a three year ban on hosting any sort of International fixture should focus a few minds !

It’s not now emerged - it was always due to be played at Scarborough - it was the COVID position that made the game be moved back to Leeds a few weeks back. However looking forward to Lancs playing at Sedbergh next week!!Clarets4me wrote: ↑Wed Jul 14, 2021 4:31 pmIt's now emerged that the match was due to be played at Scarborough, but was moved for financial reasons ( get more punters in and make more money ! ), not a good look for " Minor Counties North " !!

Re: Yorks v Lancs
To be fair to them, it was moved due to the Scarborough capacity being dramatically reduced due to Covid regulations.
However, the drainage at Headingley has been sub par for many many years. They keep building around it, but fail to realise the most important but is the green bit in the middle.

Re: Yorks v Lancs
Whatever, a pretty poor show, if you build a new stand much higher than the previous one, of course it will impact on the shading/drainage etc. A lame excuse from Yorkshire CC, it took a serious player injury for them to recognise and own up to it.
Re: Yorks v Lancs
Any news on the lad who was injured
Can only find that it was an horrific leg injury, probably means it will be broken
Hope for swift recovery back to full fitness if so

Re: Yorks v Lancs
Some form of dislocation injury arould the knee...
Got this off t'interwebby thingy
"Yorkshire CC this morning released an update on his condition. They said: "Dom Leech has dislocated a joint at the side of his left knee.
"An X-ray has shown no broken bones, and Leech will have an MRI scan today. The fast bowler is scheduled to see a specialist tomorrow."
Lancashire coach, Glen Chapple, added: "We knew yesterday the outfield was struggling to deal with the water that had fallen on the previous days. Unfortunately, things haven't changed a great deal this morning. The outfield is still soft. It's obvious that won't repair in one day.
"From both teams' perspective, I think everyone has dealt with it fairly and with a level head. I'm delighted with the points we are carrying forward. If you go back to April, I'd have snatched your hand off for what we've got and what we've achieved so far."

Think the 2 Yorkshire results mean lancs carry 16.5 points forward for the 4 division one games coming up
Strong position for us

Re: Yorks v Lancs
Indeed it is, now we need to make that advantage tell when it comes to the crunch.
Those couple of days batting won't have done our lads any harm, and it hopefully will have played a couple back into form.
Hope the lad recovers quickly, but it shouldn't take such a severe event to highlight the drainage issues at Headingley, and Yorkshire now will surely be compelled to act to rectify this problem ASAP.
