No illusions required. We got 39 points which will almost always be enough to avoid relegation regardless of how sh!te you think the bottoms three were.

And have currently lost 9 out of the last 11 league games or something similar.

The turn around has to be the stuff of miracles to keep this team up without major changes. The players that started today have been fantastic servants for this club but we need major changes to give us a chance.

I don’t disagree with the idea that it will be a difficult season. I’m just pointing out that you are incorrect to say that we only just survived last season and only did so because the bottom three were so poor.

We can't really expect anything but a difficult season,,,every season.
We are in a different league financially.

Newcastle, Palace, Brighton, Watford, Norwich, Southampton and Brentford
Think Brighton will surprise a few-I think they are mid table, and Newcastle have real quality in their squad when all fit

The one thing that we tend to do well is in little runs.

In our European season, for example, we had 7 points out of the first 7 matches then only got 5 points out of the next 12.
At the half way point we'd only got 12 points out of 19 games.

Luckily, we won our next 3 games leaving us on 21 points after 22 games, basically recovering the situation very quickly.

That's how we tend to survive.

Shall we just keep limping towards the edge of the cliff then until the inevitable happens.

Winnings about scoring goals and we're not doing that.
No! but we've never been prolific in the PL. and the encouraging aspect is we're creating chances.

Yes we need to start converting them, but I'd rather be creating the chances and missing them, than not creating any chances.

Much as it disappoints me, I'm sort of resigned to it.

Out of our five seasons in the PL we've limped to the finish on three occasions.

Aside from the regular clubs (big six) how many others can actually be established themselves?

Maybe Leicester and Everton.

Doesn't leave much scope for the rest Does it?

Basically we're in a mini league with the clubs you've just listed. The thing that worries me a bit is our home form recently. Last season off the top of my head we only beat Sheff U of the team's around us.
Last season we were poor against the sides around us.

We did better against the mid table sides, taking 20 points off just Everton, Villa, Wolves and Palace for example.

Hopefully I'll do a bit of analysis on our chances and how the fixtures fall to see where we can pick up points.

You can all wait in anticipation! ;)
And hopefully we'll do a bit of analysis of where we need to strengthen. And then do it.

Lack of confidence made the difference today. Had we scored rather than them it might have been different
"Might"? - It would have been Liverpool 0 Burnley 2 !

Exactly the stark reality of the PL is that about half the teams will always be fearing relegation in a bad year.

Yet some people on here think we won't face a struggle, we might overachieve in a good season, as happened when we finished 7th and 10th, but our other 3 PL seasons have seen us come 16th, 15th & 17th, that's a much more realistic pointer of our standing at this level.

I know not everybody will agree, but every season we can remain at this level has to be considered a successful campaign.

We've actually done pretty well for the majority of the 2 games we've played, and it's really only that crazy 5 minute spell against Brighton that's proved costly.

True but we only took 9 points from the relegated teams which I think is doable against Norwich, Brentford and Watford this season.

Which would mean we just have to repeat our points total against the rest of the league - again doable.

I agree...but desperate for new faces. Thought Elliot was brilliant for the Reds, I realise he is a real talent...but Klopp not frightened to throw an 18 Yr old in there.
Like Dyche did with young Dwight.
