This is exactly what I was going to say. Barnes has been a shambolic joke in every game he has played for a while now. We have 2 decent forwards then a home town trier Barnes should be nowhere near the first 11. Jay should be 4th choice at best. Need another forward in Jan.AfloatinClaret wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 10:00 pmBe fair, Barnes went off at the same time Lennon came on, so your post should've read: Bringing Lennon on effectively kept us at ten men

Re: Lennon not Maxwel
Lennon was a poor signing first time round, similar to the signings of Walters, Crouch and Stephens. To bring him back for another year is beyond belief. God knows what Pace and the new board must be thinking.

Re: Lennon not Maxwel
Lennon was bought on to steady the ship, nothing more, nothing less. It was clear we were susceptible to a drudging.
I think we have to be realistic, it's very, very rare we will pull back a 2 goal deficit, so damage limitation and a chance of nicking a goal is better. (We almost did).

The ship he was brought on to steady could be sinking faster than ever with players of his capabilities.

Re: Lennon not Maxwel
Maybe, but I have no problem with him bought on with a mind to defend. It's when we're expecting him to attack when it's pointless.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 3:08 amThe ship he was brought on to steady could be sinking faster than ever with players of his capabilities.
He's basically taken over George Boyds job. He was bought on for damage limitation vs Everton, that's all.

The WHINING has reached fever pitch again ......its a long season, Everton are a good team, by all accounts we played reasonably well.
Just enjoy it!.....we're in the premier league.

Re: Lennon not Maxwel
We have workhorses in midfield, we are yet to find our drayman to boss them and organise them on the field, is he at the club? I suspect SD hasn’t spotted who it is if he exists in the squad, despite his efforts to do so.
Re: Lennon not Maxwel
Just in midfield? Our squad is full of Workhorses. That’s the problem We have nothing else. Workhorses are very effective when there is younger athleticism around them or technical brilliance which needs protected. We won’t change under Dyche unfortunately.elwaclaret wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 12:57 pmWe have workhorses in midfield, we are yet to find our drayman to boss them and organise them on the field, is he at the club? Re: Lennon not Maxwel
We have changed as players allowed several times under Dyche. He, rightly or wrongly sees this as his strongest hand at his disposal. Do your shore up the left with Stephens? He would stop the weakness on the left but at what cost to our attack that also favours the left? Westy cannot play forward playmaker and defensive midfield organiser and sweeper… there are very few who can and certainly not ready made in our price range.

We don’t have work horses in midfield, we have light weight one trick ponies: sideways, sideways, sideways.....hoof.

Re: Lennon not Maxwel
That is the result of lack of confidence. Brownhill is classic… a young lad finding his feet in a struggling team…. His work is there but his passing is wayward as a result which makes him even more cautious and less inclined to take risks. Players feed on belief at the moment effort is having to make up for that in a losing team. Randell and even Britton both box to box midfielders did much the same when things were not going wellVino blanco wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 1:24 pmWe don’t have work horses in midfield, we have light weight one trick ponies: sideways, sideways, sideways.....hoof.

Agree elwa, and I also think it is partly the way they have "to fit into the framework". When Brownhill first joined us I was impressed by the way he won the ball and then took it forward quickly, looking for a passing opportunity. This part of his game seemed to disappear after only a few games. Is it the way we are coached?

Re: Lennon not Maxwel
I think it is purely driven by lack of confidence. We need a scruffy win or two then all the nonsense about players being over the hill will stop as players rediscover their form. I see West is just the latest target of the ‘over the hill brigade’… guess it’s his turn.Vino blanco wrote: ↑Tue Sep 14, 2021 1:47 pmAgree elwa, and I also think it is partly the way they have "to fit into the framework". Re: Lennon not Maxwel
If you were an Everton supporter and saw Lennon coming on, who wasn't good enough for them 5 years ago, you would be right in thinking this lot has nothing to offer.
