I don't know about these two players but after the impact that Cornet has made you'd hope that we are a lot more open to options like this

I think the nay-sayers need to consider that we could be the right club for Martial to revive his international career.

Having just watched United, who were crap by the way.
Who wants a player who cannot get in a very rubbish United side.

Anthony Martial as a player is about as far from Sean Dyche’s grenade football as we could possibly get. Not a chance on earth.

I watch a fair bit of French football. I think it’s the closest foreign league to the premier league.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 9:16 pmI don't know about these two players but after the impact that Cornet has made you'd hope that we are a lot more open to options like this

He'd get prime time with us and could turn out to be the saviour. Not convinced Rangnick fancies Martial. Let's face it... None of our current strikers are doing us any favours, and Martial would only need to commit for six months.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:16 pmCan you honestly highlight one reason why Martial would want to come to Burnley?

Why would Martial go to team in the relegation spots when he can go and play champions league football elsewhere?
Honestly there’s as much chance as us signing Pogba

Re: Anthony Martial on loan?
Very decent players and good options that we could presumably afford. Bayo is a big lad, a bit clumsy looking but scores a lot of tap ins and I like that in a striker. Would suit us, I think. Doucouré a defensive midfielder who looks strong & decent on the ball. No idea about their attitude or English.JohnDearyMe wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 9:16 pmI don't know about these two players but after the impact that Cornet has made you'd hope that we are a lot more open to options like this
Can never judge Ligue 1 players in terms of quality though. I didn’t think Maxwel would be such a sensation.

Is a loan for six months really out of our financial reach when we're desperate for a decent striker and, in turn, desperate to stay in the Prem?Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:23 pmWhy would Martial go to team in the relegation spots when he can go and play champions league football elsewhere?

I don't think we should panic buy in January. We just just need someone to see us through to the end of the season. If we get relegated then at least we aren't lumbered with a failure and his wages.
Also, if Martial is desperate to leave United as reports suggest, maybe he'd enjoy the challenge. Alternatively we could just let him go to Newcastle with a whimper.

Re: Anthony Martial on loan?
The balance is always going to be how much the owners want to risk for the reward of staying in the league. If we go down without investing anything in January then I'm seriously shitting myself about what lies ahead. Just some intent, even if it fails, would be nice. Surely we can be canny enough to get around a few teams in and around us.Newcastleclaret93 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 27, 2021 10:31 pmDifferent bracket of club. Newcastle have money to waste, we don’t.

Lots of people on here claiming to be in the know and saying that Martial is on silly kinds of money. But he's actually only on £150,000 per week.

He is on a decent wage but he is at United who have the largest wage bill in the Premier League, fact. It just isn’t helpful when people make up a weekly wage far higher than this to support their posts/counter argument on this thread.

Honestly I am amazed people think there is even a slight chance he would rock up here on loan. Deluded.
Re: Anthony Martial on loan?
Mata is a far more realistic call. I suspect Lingard will bound for the Sleeping Giants.

By Burnley standards 150k a week is way out of our reach, even for a loan signing, and Martial wouldn't entertain the prospect of coming to Burnley anyway.

"Manchester United have rejected a loan bid from Seville for Anthony Martial, their France striker.
The Times understands that United rejected the six-month loan offer because the Spanish club were only prepared to pay half of Martial’s £250,000-per-week wages.
United would only be willing to do business with Seville, or any other suitors, if they are committed to paying all of the 26-year-old’s wages for the rest of the season.
It is also understood that United are looking for a loan fee for the forward, who arrived, from Monaco for an initial fee of £36m in the summer of 2015."

I've no idea if Martial is on £150,000 a week, or as the Times reports £250,000 a week.

Re: Anthony Martial on loan?
There’s plenty of sources that say £250k, Paul. Which is presumably where the £6m loan fee comes from. Would we finish 3 places higher if we had a player of Martial’s quality though? I think yes, so it could pay for itself, but as with all these decent fringe players from the big clubs - they’ll all have better options available to them than little old Burnley, even if we were willing to splash the cash.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 5:34 pm

Personally I'm sick of the mega-big clubs signing more players than they need and then trying to hire them out.
It's not a benevolent act, it's actually pretty disgusting.
There was a time when a loan was actually a loan, mutually beneficial to both clubs and the player involved.

True, and there’s a decent argument that any such “star” signing in a Burnley team could have the opposite effect.Iloveyoubrady wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 5:53 pmIt’s not as simple as will we finish 3 places higher though. My point was more that while the fees seem extortionate (and may not actually be met by any team), they may actually be cost neutral if successful.
Re: Anthony Martial on loan?
From Anthony Martial’s point of view, he’d probably be playing PL football every week at a club that is ‘just down the road’ from where he lives.
We pay £60k a week wages and Utd. pay the other £90k.
Highly unlikely but I wouldn’t put anything beyond the ambition of Alan Pace.

Re: Anthony Martial on loan?
I agree, although in most cases you find that the players being touted for a loan were signed by a different manager, played lots initially (under them) and then fell out of favour under a new manager. In Martials case, he’s been there 7 years so presumably been through 4 or so managers now.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Wed Dec 29, 2021 9:22 pmPersonally I'm sick of the mega-big clubs signing more players than they need and then trying to hire them out.

I also disagree with PL clubs collecting loan players like Fulham & WBA did last year. Had either of them stayed up with other teams players making up the majority of their starting XI, over us (playing our own team), that would be completely wrong.
