Once again I was sucked in, like some rabid Nationalist, that Scotland could maintain their form and put too many in my fantasy team. They should only be allowed to play England at the end of the tournament!!
I wonder if you had Stuart Hogg (even as captain)? He didnt score very well in this round, Darcy Graham did well though (assuming its the Guinness 6N fantasy game).
I'm doing ok so far with 4 England players to come this afternoon (one as captain). I'm 12,037th in the overall rankings at the moment; I've no idea how many people have entered so unsure if that's better/worse than average but the main thing is- I'm beating my son (who supports Wales and had too many low-scoring Wales players in his team for round 1).

I’ve got Steward in at FB this weekend (having dropped Jaminet! )and am hoping for a big English win! 413 pts so far.

Do they still have the machine that pours 12 pints at a go?

Yeah they have those machines but it’s disorganised so if you ask for 4 pints you may have to wait for 1 then another few minutes for a second and so on. People were waiting 15 mins after paying. Just inexperienced staff and poor management I think.

I'm at 487 so far. Ive also got Steward as FB but managed to squeeze Jaminet onto the subs bench along with Hansen & those two got 50+ each so good additions even when halved. Hoping to get that total up past 600 this aft; the weather looks a good deal better in Rome than it does here ( 14 C, sunny spells and not much wind) so should be a few tries you'd hope.

Yes Italy's first ever victory over England, I can't see a repeat today though, even with the inexperienced side Eddie Jones has selected.

England generally played pretty well at Murrayfield, and will probably feel that one got away. I don't see any slip-up's this afternoon.

21-0 England at HT, and it's been surprisingly comfortable, Italy giving far too many cheap penalties away.

An easy 33-0 win for England, and you have to wonder exactly what Italy bring to this competition now.

When Italy "only" lost 37-10 in Paris last week, there was some belief that they had turned a corner but 33-0 didnt flatter England today- despite quite a few unforced errors and too many penalties conceded in a scrappy 2nd half display.
England looked more dangerous attacking than I've seen them for a while, looked like they could score at any time and the defence did well H2 when Italy managed to mount some decent attacks.

Smith makes mistakes but his running and passing are very good and his mistakes should diminish with experience. Looking forward to seeing him play many times for England.
I thought Daly had a good game too- he takes a lot of criticism usually but he fielded well today and made some good runs.
Lineout and maul went well; scrums were decent.
A fortnight to wait for the Eng v Wales & Scotland v France clashes now; Ireland should run up a fair few against Italy in Dublin on the Sunday.

Back this weekend after the rest week.

Saturday

Scotland-France

England-Wales

Got to plump for France by 7-10 points, they are just so strong in all departments, and have so many matchwinners in their ranks.

The Twickenham clash is tougher to call, as both sides are ravaged with injuries, but home advantage will be key, and England will edge it by a few points.

Sunday

Ireland-Italy

Should be a comfortable BP victory for Ireland.

The Ireland and Italy matchday 23s should be announced shortly (12.00?). Itll be interesting to see if Ireland pick the best team possible or experiment a bit (I dont think they need a full A-team to beat Italy).
I can finalise my fantasy 6N team then (a big advantage over the football equivalent is that you know who is and isn't playing before selecting).

Bookies have it currently as;
France to win by 7 points
England to win by 13 points
Ireland to win by 38 points

I might have a little bet on Scotland to throw a surprise, they have a history of upsetting France in Edinburgh (won 4 of the last 5 I think).
I'm not sure England will find it that easy v Wales either (though I hope so as England v Wales has bragging rights attached in my family).

So week 3 .
France look very good in fact unbeatable , hummmmmmm we will see will go with 10 points victory but like it has been said the Scots can shock anyone .
England for me as at home really more than anything else , but close game and win by 2 points
Ireland will get a BP take their foot off the gas but six tries and win by 32 points .

Scotland to spring a surprise and take a narrow win by 7 points or less ...
England to win narrowly despite Jones's substitutions ....
Ireland to win by 40 points plus ...

Having said all this, I'm in a predictor competition run by Blackburn Rugby Club and am sitting 27th out of 38 after two rounds, so what do I know ? I played at a good junior Club standard until an ACL did for me at 32 ..... my wife, who wouldn't know Fran Cotton from Ferne Cotton, lies in 4th place !!

France blowing Scotland away, 2 tries already, and 2 brilliant tries at that, 12-3 to France, 16 minutes gone.

19-10 France at HT, good game, but Scotland will be kicking themselves after blowing a glorious opportunity for a try moments before France scored right on the stroke of the interval.

So wins for England and France, although the French victory was far more conclusive, and they'll be a hard force to stop now with a Grand Slam firmly in their sights.

Bookies are going for:
France to beat Wales by 9
Scotland to beat Italy by 20
Ireland to beat England by 2

On the basis that France have a tendency to flatter to deceive - I'm going for:
Wales by 1-5 tonight
then
Scotland by 21-25
Ireland by 6-10

I hope I've got that last one the wrong way round but Ireland have a very strong squad and England a few weaknesses.

Yes I've got a funny feeling the Welsh will come up trumps tonight, mainly because in Cardiff they are a difficult animal to beat.

Scotland should be fine in Rome, 15-20 point win.

England-Ireland is a tough one, but Ireland have the experience, and that will be key for them to grind out a narrow win.

France battle to a narrow 13-9 win, big chance for them to clinch a long awaited Grand Slam now. But Wales will be kicking themselves over the chances they mossed tonight.

I did and I wasn't the only one, and if they'd taken their chances a win was there's for the taking, but they didn't so they'll go away telling hard luck stories.

Watching Italy struggle again I do think it is time for 6N league 2 with prom/releg.
The top ranked European teams suitable would be:
Georgia,13. Italy are currently 14.
Spain, 15
Romania, 17
Portugal, 20
Netherlands, 26
Belgium, 27.

Russia are 25 but a pariah state, Poland at 28 and Germany at 31.
As well as giving them the aspiration of playing 6N itwould surely improve the standard throughout these countries.

Strange game as it looked like Ireland would over rum England after the sending off , then looked all at sea for an hour only to clear the bench and win by 17 points at the end .

Super Saturday tomorrow, the conclusion of this year's competition ....

Wales to beat Italy by 25-29 points, Ireland to put away Scotland by 11-15 points, and then Tribesmen and many others with Emerald Isle connections will find themselves in the unusual position of cheering on England as they take on France in Paris. France to win by 5-9 points ...

Very timely post, I've just finalised (maybe) my squad for the Guinness 6N fantasy game.

For tomorrow's games Bookie has:
France to win by 8 points
Ireland to beat Scotland by 16
Wales to beat Italy by 27.

I think Ill back:
France to win by 1-5
Ireland to win by 11-15
Wales win by 11-15 only (a lot of injuries/changes for Wales).

I think France v England will be the closest game anyway.

Think it should go back to 5 nations. Italy aren’t offering much and haven’t progressed since they were admitted. Is Georgia really in Europe ? Not sure about them being in it. Hoping for a better England peformance but expect wins for France and Ireland. The table will then finish as I expected before the tournament started. Been some god games though and a welcome break from some dull football.

To be fair, Italy are starting to see some real progress at u20 level, where they'd beaten both England and Scotland in that version of the 6 Nations this year .... I'm mindful that New Zealand played 26 years and 45 Cricket Test matches before they won their 1st Test, there is some talk of South Africa being admitted to the 6 Nations over the next few years ...

The "South Africa in stead of Italy" has been largely slapped down by all concerned (except SA).
As per Clarets4me post- Italy younger age groups have been improving a lot the last couple of years so this should filter through in the next few years.

More importantly probably - Rome is seen as a great weekend away trip by fans from the other 5 nations.

Wins for France, Ireland and Wales to round off the tournament, and this French side must be becoming favourites to claim the WC on home soil next year.

France by 10-12 points
Ireland by 9-12 points
Wales by 20 or so.

aujourd'hui - Le Coq contra La Rose.

Could we upset the French? I don't think so.

Wow! that wasn't in the script, Italy snatch a win in the dying moments in Cardiff, and what a try to clinch it a brilliant score from deep in their own half.

22-21 and Italy's first ever victory on Welsh soil. Well done to the Azurri.

This hasn’t aged well Boss

Wales "did an England" there: kicked far too much ball away. The Italy back 3 fielded great, kicked back well and ran some great counters. Capuozzo and Ioana in particular were very illusive on the counter. Great try at the end following a very mazy Capuozzo run (and support from 14).

3/4 minutes from the end, the Man of the Match was awarded to Adams I noted. Excellent sportsmanship from Adams though, he sought out Capuozzo after the game when the Italians were doing their lap of honour and appeared to give him the award- lovely sporting act of respect between the two of them.
