Re: United’s away support
I have asked this one before. What is the significance of their "Nick Knack Paddy Whack" chant?
Re: United’s away support
A song for Wout from my Son, copying UTD’s “rhythm is a dancer tune”
Rhythm is a dancer,
Wout is the answer,
Scoring goals everywhere,
Couldv’e stayed in Germany,
But he came to Burnley
Now he is our player
Think it’s pretty good last line could be worked on

But he came to Burnley
Now he is our player

It’s so hard to get an away ticket. You have to have been a member for years so they tend to go to the real fans from Manchester not the glory hunters from elsewhere.

A couple of the United coaches at Turf Moor on Tuesday had this logo emblazoned on the side.....SydneyClaret wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 10:03 pmIt’s so hard to get an away ticket. "Parks of Hamilton"
I don't think Hamilton is a suburb of Manchester!

I lived in Manchester when I went to school and I never knew anyone from Worksop.

At least our music before the match is inspiring and atmospheric

What on earth is that noise all about ?

“Course” rhymes with (Weg)horst.
The original is “so I asked, who is he, he goes by the name of Wayne Rooney. He and (Roo)ney rhyme.
Called and Weghorst wouldn’t.

Re: United’s away support
The problem started, obviously when the Longside was rebuilt. I saw it happening around me. When season tickets went on sale for the stand. Older Clarets in their 50’s & 60’s rushed to get the best seats. This interspersed them among the vocal support. Also forcing younger fans into the lower tier. During chants “Owen Coyles Claret & Blue armyHerts Clarets wrote: ↑Wed Feb 09, 2022 12:10 pmThe problem is no matter which chant we rip off, they are indecipherable due to the speed they are sung at. There was a sustained "We are the Longside" towards the end of the second half last night, and if i didnt know what was being sung, i would have no idea. Covered recently on here was the legendary chanting at Derby in the FA Cup replay 1992 of Jimmy Mullen's Claret & Blue Army. Compare that to the Sean Dyche version now, it must be double the speed. Our repertoire of songs and delivery really are very poor.
Lancashire homes should have no clapping at all.
That’s my thoughts on it.

Talking of away followings - just read that Ipswich are taking 7,200 to MK Dons tomorrow. It’s League 1 and they are mid table. Some big clubs at this level with Sunderland, Wednesday, Bolton, Portsmouth and of course Stanley.

I’ve stated this before. The clapping destroys the rhythm of chants. We even slowed songs down years ago which was fun: Jimmy Mullen’s Claret and Blue Army.RammyClaret61 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 7:42 amThe problem started, obviously when the Longside was rebuilt. Also forcing younger fans into the lower tier. During chants “Owen Coyles Claret & Blue army“ they felt compelled to join in, but rather than chant, they just clapped along. But rather than clap at the appropriate times, they clapped right through. Getting faster and faster. These supporters also brought kids with them 10-15 years old Their kids learned this, and it’s just carried on till this day. Same with “in our Lancashire home”. You’ll find most clubs chants never have clapping over words, only us. Sean Dyche Claret & Blue army… clap clap clap clap.

In the CFS, which then went to away games such as Blackpool, a load of lads would stand up and shout ‘Jimmy’, then sit down whilst their mates stood up and shouted ‘Mullen’s’, then they would all sing ‘Claret and Blue Army’.
It went on for ages. The Longside started singing ‘Stand Boys, give us a song’ around that time.
The clubs who have the better chants sing in rhythm, and often don’t clap at all. Didn’t we nickname our own fans the happy clappers?

The Jimmy song was started on the Longside. I can still remember the guy who just kept shouting Jimmy as loud as he could during the original song. Eventually people joined in with him and it was changed for a while.Claretforever wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 8:27 amI’ve stated this before. The clapping destroys the rhythm of chants. It was sung at speed on the Longside, which was why the Jimmy was so loud, Mullens about half then Claret and blue army barely heard. It was hard to get the 4 words out by the time Jimmy was bellowed out again.
I agree with clapping making things faster. But we have always sung fast even in the 90s. The passionate fan base we have, that sings, always takes over. Probably because most of our stuff is about Blackburn.

Re: United’s away support
Even the claret and blue army chant went through a spell of having a b*****d line in it when they began using "Don Mackay's blue and white b*****ds" alternatelyQuickenthetempo wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 8:53 amThe Jimmy song was started on the Longside. Here's the 94 Stockport final. Hopefully it's linked to 1hr.08 on the video if not go to manually.
Jimmy Mullen’s Claret n Blue Army rings out for a few minutes as fast as anything today.
