Not only did our players get a quick break and a quick tactics talk but we then went on a scored a goal a couple of minutes later!!
I’d forgotten about that. Perhaps we should push for more water breaks five minutes before half-time.

The dates of Ramadan are based on the lunar calendar so it moves around. For most of the last decade it's basically completely avoided the domestic football season. For the last few years it's been beginning in May and now April so that's why Iftar is falling during games. I'm sure I remember the same thing happening last year as well but with no spectators present it was more of a non-event.
Easter used to be the same, it moved around inline with Jewish Passover, until the Council of Nicaea decided on a specific time after a certain moon.

The bloke I sit next to, who appears convinced that the opposition consistently waste time, pinch yards on throwings and generally get every decision in their favour yelled “what the f*** is going on now” as they headed to the bench, just as he did against Everton.

That said, after each and very goal scored he shouts “are they going to check it” and seems certain that all our goals get checked but none of the oppositions. I’ve told him each time “every goal gets checked pal” but he will no doubt be shouting the same come Sunday.
It's a shame we have to share the ground with the odd bellend eager to burst a blood vessel every game. There's one near me who starts on the linesman as early as possible without prejudice. Every throw in is "open your eyes", every corner "it's over the line", every opposition attack is "you're blind...he's offside" etc.

I often wonder if the linesmen have similar experiences at other grounds or if it's just us that have a special select few

I'd be confident in saying every ground has its fair share.

No issue with brief Ramadan break in games for me. More concerning is all of these games being paused for medical episodes in the crowd. With our escalating obesity problem in the UK we will surely be seeing many games being interrupted in the future for heart attacks/severe indigestion.

Aye, that's what's causing all these medical emergencies.

Easter and Passover are still both determined by the time of the full moon. I think the change meant that the calculation of the two is done slightly differently so they don't always coincide, but the general principle didn't change.
